Commerce Or The Bike?

Recommended Posts

I'm going travelling soon for a few months and will end up in LA somewhere near the end of my journeys. By this time, I'd have been over 4 months without any poker, so I'll be absolutely desperate to play. However, as Im backpacking I won't have a large amount of funds, so I'd basically be looking to have a decent session for good value. I'd be prepared to spend about put aside approximately $300 for 'poker'. What low limits do the bike / commerce offer for limit, NLHE and Omaha 8? Any recomendations on which one to play at and which limits / games are particularly recomended due to being softer or more fun than others? As I'd have been so long without playing I'd rather sit in a fun game than to try and grind out a winning session. Also where abouts are the bike / commerce in relation to the city centre etc? Any other reccomendations about what to do whilst in LA?

What blinds? Is that minimum or max buy in?
thats the max....im not sure waht the blinds are(i havent played in that game)...the blinds in the 100-300NL game is 2-5, so im assuming its 1-2.edit...might be 1-1.

Commerce has the most games, therefore the best game selection. Limit HE starts at 2/4, NL starts at $100 buy-in with 2/3 blinds, I believe. All of the small NL games in LA are fixed buy-in, you have to buy in exactly for that amount. They play 3/6 O8.The bike has a $40 NL, but I haven't played it, so I don't know the details. Both are fairly close to downtown, but you probably won't be staying downtown. LA is a big place, with many small cities in the area. If you know where you will be staying, I can tell you which is closer. Bike and Commerce are fairly close to each other, but there are also Hawaiian Gardens, Hollywood Park, Crystal Park, Hustler, as well as the indian casinos.Wherever you choose to play, the rake will be ridiculous though.

just grind out some 2/4 limit for a little while and then play a little 100 NL if you want. If you blow through a stack or two go back to 2/4, until you have made another few hundred and repeat.

Venice beach is good for a few stories to tell when you get home. But have you looked at a map of LA? a cab ride from one end to the other will eat up your bankroll. There is a great hostel though in Santa Monica like a block from the beach. Funny their beds were like $15 a night, when parking across the street for the day is $20.Or go to Sand Diego, much nicer all around and the downtown is really quite nice.Palm Springs would be an ideal diversion, 5 casinos within 20 minutes, some with decent rakes. 3 great cigar stores, two okay ones. And the weather is better.I was in London two years ago, great place, loved it immensely, LA is a cess pool with busy roads

The last time I was in Cali. The Bike had $40 NL game with .50/1 blind. But I found more games and juicier games at Commerce $100 NL. 2-3 blind.
this game at the bike is still pretty popular. it's a $40 buyin, 1-2NL game. if you bust, you can rebuy for $60 each time (plan to do so since the variance with such bad players is extreme). i find it to be an excellent game since most of the people there are just looking to have a good time and $40 (or more) doesn't mean too much to them. if you get there after 10PM virtually any night of the week, half of the players are also drinking.players boozing + players not knowing how to play NLHE + low-buy ins = money in my (and your) pocket.
