I stayed at the Ritz Carlton last year, they have a couple tables in their small casino, but they were closed when I was there (to my girlfriend's relief). They should be running this time of year, I think they have 1/2 NL. The Intercontinental is a few hotels over and they have a decent room with daily tournaments and WSOP satellites.

More sex, less poker. That's my advice.

Yeah if you want a poker vacation, probably not the best place to go...Enjoy the weather and the time with the wife...

I have been to Puerto Rico the past three years for New Years. The poker scene is terrible. where as someone stated they have 1-2NL(which they dont) .. at the Intercontinental there is 2 poker tables. one is 5-10 limit and the other is 10-20 limit where its not uncommon to see 8 way action at both tables capped preflop. just insane drunk people with alot of money. Ritz Carlton has two-three tables but they are all 5-10 limit. The Intercontinental though does has a daily $75 dollar tourny but its first come first served. Say you are one of the first 100 people to sign up you get a seat when it starts .. the rest of the people are alternates till others get knocked out. in my case, you start with 1000 in chips and i didnt get to sit down till the blinds were 100-200. Kind of a Joke tourny. but on another note. weather is beautiful. club in El San Juan is nice.. def check out the cockfights right across the street from the Ritz. DONT walk down any side streets late at night outside of san juan.. check out the castles in Old San Juan. great site .. Enjoy

My parents stayed at the El Conquistador, which is like an hour southeast of San Juan. They said there was a pretty big casino and pokerroom, but I can't vouch for sure as I wasn't actually there.e

There is no no-limit poker in Puerto Rico, only limit 5/10 - 10/20. Poker is regulated by PR Tourism Company. Live play available Ritz Carlton (2 tables) Condado Plaza (24hrs 2 tables), Embassy Suits (Isla verde Fri-Sat 2 tables) Intercontinental semi-private poker room with 6 tables. 12min walking distance from the Ritz. The Inter also have NL Holdem tournys daily, 8pm M-T $65 2,000chips . 8pm Fri & Sat $120 3,000 chips and 6pm sundays $160 4,000 chips. Rebuys allowed until level 4. Alternate seatting is faster than before. Free drinks & sandwiches while playing, just tip the waitress.3 rounds of betting per hand caps the limit poker game. You should expect to see 8 people calling to see the flop with 2-3 chasing the 1 outter to the river. For more info on Puerto Rico's Poker scene visit www.puertoricopokerpages.com

I lived in St. Thomas, USVI (40 miles from San Juan, PR) and I spent my 15th birthday on Puerto Rico. The best mall in the world is Plaza Las Americas. It is HUGE. So if you play poker and your wife does not, she may enjoy the mall.HOWEVER... the Caribbean is beautiful. Go to the rain forest, watch how they make rum, go surfing, lay out on the beach, take a quick island hopper over to St. Thomas which has the best beaches and shopping. Drink lots of good rum (oh... and on St. Thomas all liquor is duty free and you can get it for a steal.) Have romance. The last thing you really want to do is be indoors. Even when I lived there, being outdoors was the bomb. Whatever you do have fun but be safe. Pick pocketing and purse snatching is very common in the Caribbean.

  • 2 years later...

Forgive me for replying to a thread from two years ago, but I found it as the top Google result when searching for "Poker in Puerto Rico" and figured a little current info could help some fellow travelers...I'm on vacation in PR now with my girlfriend and we both wanted to go play a little bit as we had never played casino poker before. After a couple Google searches (hence my post now) and phone calls I found out that the Intercontinental San Juan Resort Spa & Casino 5 minutes from the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport does indeed have a 2/5 NL Hold 'Em cash game. When I called to inquire they didn't mention anything other then the 2/5 NL table. We took a cab from Condado Plaza (only crappy 3-card poker here which I never even saw anyone playing) and played there last night. It looked like only 4 tables I think, I didn't pay too much attention to that as I was busy watching how people were playing. When we were there only two were active, then merged to one before we sat down late on Wed night.Contrary to previous posts the players were not loose at all. Few rivers were seen (guessing 35%?) and mostly two-handed, and no one flinched a bit at folds. It seemed to be mainly locals at the table speaking almost exclusively Spanish (my only reason for thinking they were locals) which was slightly intimidating for a non-Spanish speaking casino-first-timer, but I still managed to walk away with a couple hundred of their dollars, and a good experience, thanks to a few quality hands. I hope this helps someone else on vacation to this beautiful island who wants to kill some night time hours.

Really?More Poker, Less Sex IMO.Though I don't think Puerto Rico is know for it's poker hotspots.
I understand you are a man (congratulations) but being relatively new to the sex scene you shouldn't be giving advice with regards to it.I do agree with the fact you should get sex (love for the girls in the forum) from the one you love while you can as it will surely diminish with time.I say that because my 6 hours of poker time tonight have surely deminished my likelihood of 'sexytime' with my wife.Anyways.. with that somber note.... giggitygiggityg000

While in Puerto Rico, I wrote rather extensively about the Intercontinental Resort San Juan and poker in the region. You can read the multi-part series at http://paulmetheney.comPoker in San Juan Pt 1. - http://paulmetheney.com/poker-puerto-rico1Poker at the IC, players, patterns - http://paulmetheney.com/poker-puerto-rico2About the resort Pt 1.- http://paulmetheney.com/puertorico-pt1Blue Water, White Sand… Not so Much Pt 2. - http://paulmetheney.com/puertorico-pt2While I am a professional writer (at times) and web developer, these links do not lead to commercial sites, nor am I trying to sell anyone anything. The links above lead to my personal blog which is my rants on various topics, including reviews, travel, writing, poker and the universe in general. No Google ads or opportunities to subscribe to the newest porn site (while that does have SOME appeal!) Strictly an unbiased and politically incorrect opinion of San Juan, The Intercontinental Resort and poker in Puerto Rico (say that 10x fast!)
