anyone else found the poker channel?

Recommended Posts

There I was... Channel surfing on sattelite TV when I noticed something called "The Poker Channel"... Bugger me!It's on channel 265 in the UK and I just finished watching Stu Unger win the 1999 WSOP amid some of the worst bluffing I've ever seen in my life. The programmes which are made for the channel are cheap and crap, but kind of endearing. There's a lot of tournament's shown as well though, so if you get a chance, check it out.

I was wondering how long until someone made a poker channel, or if it would happen. Actually, the reason I was wondering is because when I flick on TV, the first thing I do is hit up FSN, travel channel and GSN hoping to see a poker match :D

Boo, I've got NTL not Sky, so no Poker Channel for me... what I want to know is why British Eurosport never show what they say they're going to show? Whenever there's any poker listed I've tuned in to find they're showing boxing. Or curling. Or the international heads-up crocheting finals. grrrrrr

I did see it bud, but to be honest it was not that memorable !
Did you see episode 9, you would have had a chance to see a legend in the making.

Yeah i was on it, i had the really long hair and black shirt and tie on. The announcer kept making fun of me the whole broadcast. I was actually leading the table for most of the show and then the blinds cut into me pretty badly. It was me George Geary, Lawerence Gosney, Jason Jung and Xanthos Chalabambos and some other dude.

Just discussing it with the guy next to me at work and I dont remember that tournament that well. Who won it in the end ? Party Poker had a tournament on TV around the same time !

The iceman George Geary won it. The internet qualifier Jason Jung almost beat him with an aj v a9 showdown and geary rivered a 9. On the next hand jung had an A 10d and geary had pocket 2's. Geary caught a 2 off the flop and it was over.

It vaguely rings a bell, did you end up winning anything ? I remember getting to a satelite for entry into that tournament but I was not very good at that time and came no where. Are you living in America ?I seem to remember the package being worth around $12,000 (hotel stay etc) ???

This is interesting......Sorry, but Stuey died in 1998, so this is hard to believe....also, what do you mean about the bluffing?? I would assume you didnt mean Stueys moves, because he made some brilliant plays at that table (1997).....please elaborate.

He's refering to the 1997 WSOP final table when Stu won his 3rd title. The bluffer was, i think, the nervous casino owner who almost shook with terror everytime he went all in.And I have to disagree about the home grown programs being c-rap. they may have cheap production values but they've been very entertaining, particularly Barney's home game program.

Thanx, man, but I figured that out.....just wanted to bust his chops a bit. My favorite Stu move was when he bluffed Ron Stanley out of a huge pot with Quenn high......Stanley never recovered(Stuey flipped over his cards as soon as Ron folded)and busted out shortly thereafter.

I got 2500 for expenses and things. If i would have won the 6 person table i would have got 10k, but I got caught in a sticky situation. I was in the BB for 15k. My stack was at 50k at the time. So I have 35k left. The guy UTG raises to 30k, but is playing incredibly tight. The sb reraises him all in. I look down at pocket 3's. I figured UTG would fold leaving 30k dead in the pot. I had 15k in the pot, and if sb has ak,aq i have an excellent price to have a race. UTG folded, but the sb unfortunately did not have aq ak. He flipped up q's and i was out of there fast. I did get the walk out with a hot chick though. She was a fox!!!!I live in Wisconsin, and it was nice just going there during school and having a break for a week. It was in Maidstone, which was a really nice place.

Good stuff vaglvr, I'm pretty sure I saw your episode as I followed the Pacific Poker Open but I only have a vague recollection of that episode. I hope they'll repeat it again so I can check out your moves :D

I've got a thing on my TV which tells me what I'm watching when I change channel and it said '99, but I'll take your word for it. It also played the year Scotty Nguen won it and said it was 2001 so...The bluffs I was referring to were Ron Stanley trying to knock the guy off pocket Aces and Mel Judah taking a stab at the pot against Unger which busted him. Both awful, awful plays... Did feel sorry for Ron though... First he gets the crap bluffed out of him, then he has a 44-1 shot take half his stack then tries to bluff Aces. And he got the benefit of doing it on national TV with everyone watching!Teach him to wear a bow tie

Sounds like a very good experience buddy. What was the buy in that they paid and what did the winner get ?

Lol no way... I guess you can see my play and see how it all went down. To rising shark, the buy in was 10k and the winnner took 250k down. There is one hand that still bothers me. I was 2nd to act with A10 off and the blinds were at 7500 15000. I hadn't seen a hand in forever and with about 90k in my stack I made the decision to push hard. I raised 50k basically making myself committed to the pot. The loosest player on the table called, Lawerence Gosney. The flop came K Q and an under card. He was first to act being in the blinds and he checked. A very curious check.. Anyways I had made my decision preflop and w/o hesitation I pushed all in for only 40k more. I wanted to keep my stack big enough for one more big push post flop to maybe move him off the hand. He had around 200k at the time.He quickly called and I was sunk feeling that basically any hand could best me. When he turned over A 10 I was shocked and confused. He called me with the crap I pushed with. That really hurt my chances in the tournament. Even worse I got called for a string bet !?! by a guy with AK the big blind and I had K7 in the small blind! After everything is worked out he calls all in pre flop! That crippled me and forced an allin with 3's later on..
