I don't think I've posted in a couple of months or so. Hope all of you guys are doing well. Anyway, if you can pull yourself away from Hold Em for a few hours, you should play Chinese Poker. It is incredibly fun. I've been playing for the last year and a half. It is completely addicting, lol. You can play traditional chinese, or chinese with 2-7 in the middle. Both are great games, in my opinion Chinese with 2-7 has more skill. Just wanted to introduce a new game to some of you. In case you haven't played it yet. Good Luck.[/b]

I got 20 years experience playing Chinese Poker. While I was in Tunica for the WPO in January, I played a 13 hour session of Chinese poker with Josh Arieh playing $50 a point. Since then, we play it here at our poker hall while waiting for a game to develop. We had a couple of players that started to play it and enjoy the game so much that they rather play it than Holdem. Most of them say its a nice break from Holdem.Playing 2-7 in the middle has some good things to it and it opens the game completely from the tradtional game. I played it one time with Clonie Gowen and David Williams.

I remember the posts you made in another thread deadlysyns :-) You set your hand in less then ten, right?Yeh, it's a fun game. I was playing it long before I ever discovered hold'em. Some good sessions were had back in those days.

I play sometimes on Superior Poker. It's okay for about an hour, but after awhile it gets a little boring. It is more of a rearranging of the cards in my hand than actually "playing". There is definitely some strategy to it though.

Wow, I didn't realize that so many of you have actually played the game. Chinese is a great break from the grind of "normal" poker. There is and can be a bit of gamble in the game. Sometimes you get stuck with 13 cards, YOU HAVE TO PLAY THEM, and the real challenge at the point, is how to lose the least amount of money as possible. Someone asked for a link or rules of the game. If you simply type in Chinese Poker on any search engine, it'll show you. For the rest of you guys that have played, hopefully we can all play together one day, when a major tournament is going on. That would be fun. Good Luck.

I actually just played my first session of Chinese with Paul Phillips, not too long ago. Let me assure you that in my opinion, he is quite skilled at the game. I have also sweated Phil Ivey when he played. He too was incredible. There is some luck involved in the game. But, I certainly have been outclassed on many occassion with GREAT players. Good Luck.

It has luck involved in what cards you are dealt but when you get different options to set your hands then the skill takes over.I have played this game a long time to where I can and will likely beat you in the long run. A good Chinese poker player can tell what the other players hand has based on his own 13 cards.I played for 8 hours of Chinese poker for $5 dollar a point with bonuses/royalties yesterday and I was the only winner. I started with $100 and ended up winning $500.They had a Chinese Poker even in the 94 and 95 WSOP with a $1500 buyin and $5000 buyin w/rebuys. Let me tell you if there were still a Chinese Poker event in the WSOP now I would play that it in a heartbeat.

Man I've always thought of it as "big two" or whatever in Cantonese, I didn't know it was a form of poker. Now I know WHY I'm so addicted to Texas Hold 'Em- ' cause I've been playing "Chinese Poker" since I was 5. I don't know how you would play for money though?

Marion, they're not talking about Big Two. They're talking about Sap Sam ('Thirteen cards')

Big 2 or "Tien Len" is another 13 card game played with 4 players.Chinese poker can be played two ways for money. First way is the dealer has to bank (usually 3 hands) against the other 3 players and it rotates around to the other 3 players. He can set the max bet on what the other players can wager against his hand. The other 3 players generally does side bets with each other. Playing this way, a player must win 2 out of 3 hands to win the hand. There are guarantees (automatic wins): 4 of a kind, straight flush, 3 straights, 3 flush, 6 pairsI have played this way growing up. it starts off with friendly bets then once the beer gets into the blood stream it becomes pricey to become the dealer. You usually have to cover $100-200 from each of the 3 players. The second way is through a point system. You can play $5 or $10 a point at the Commerce. With a point system your hand goes against the other 3 players. If you win 2 out of 3 hands you win 2 points ($10). A sweep 3 out of 3 hands will get you 4 points ($20). With the point system there are bonuses, ie: straight flush, 4 of a kind, fullhouse in the middle hand, trips on topStright flushes will get you an extra 5 points, 4 of a kind gets an extra 4 points. Playing the point system can get really pricey if someone gets 2 bonuses in one hand and sweeps you.
