Generally, casinos train them from the regular table games dealers. They may or may not give credit for any training outside of their own courses - a lot of dealer duties are procedural, so they vary from casino to casino and often people have to take the courses even if they have prior experience.I believe most Canadian casinos don't allow dealers to be tipped individually - instead, all tips go into a common pool, and that's split among all the staff. Actual wages generally start off around minimum wage. So the money may not be as great as you imagine.

yea, google it...there are 10ish states that have poker school...generally 400ish bucks for a 2 week course, and a lot of casinos hire you straight out of school. definitely worth it, and when i move out to vegas, school is on eof the first things i'm doing. after the hookers and the booze.

Excalibur in Vegas has a 3 week in-house training program for all dealers that they hire. I'd guess a lot of those other casinos do the same.I've been told by a couple people that a good Vegas Texas Hold Em dealer will net about $55,000 per year and a lot of those guys will play ring games in their off time, so that could be an extra couple hundred or more each week, depending on how good, or bad, a player you are.

You would be much better off financially to try and get a job dealing blackjack in a casino where dealers hold their own tips. My girlfriend is a blackjack dealer here in AZ and clears around 120 k...granted she is hot and has been doing it for seven years, but in general blackjack dealers make way more than poker dealers. There aren't a ton of casinos that let dealers hold their own tips (im not sure if there are any in vegas) but i there are some in Cali, Arizona and a few other states. If money is your first interest, go the blackjack route. Poker players are notorious for bad tipping...think of it this way: your average 3/6 player is going to tip maybe a buck or two from the pot they win...at the blackjack table a player will often make a bet for the dealer, giving the dealer the chance to double up on that tip. blackjack players tend to be way more luck and gamble oriented so they tip heavier in belief of karma or some other nonsense. If you are talking about tips being pooled, you will still make way more money as a blackjack dealer...either way its the better route financially.

Go to cardplayer and listen to some of the poker dealers talk about tips/tokes, the last one they talk with says the bigger games are the worst to deal, these players push around 20,30,50K and don't tip at all...Strange I've never heard DN talk about his feelings on dealer tipping or what the usual tipping is at the "Big game"....
