How Do Poker Players Carry Large Amounts Of Cash?

Recommended Posts

Was wondering about this lately. When poker players travel abroad, how do they carry cash with them? I'm sure the tournament buy in itself could be covered before hand easily enough, but if players want to bring like $20k for cash games, side tournaments etc. how do they do it?I can understand it might be easier for the likes of Daniel coz he's so well known, but just the more-or-less everyday poker players, how do they go about carry large amounts of cash?

"My trailer will have a bed, a kitchen, Direct TV, DVD player, etc. There won't be ANY money in my trailer so if you are thinking about robbing me you'll be very disappointed. All you'll likely get are some vegan snacks and some Figi waters. I don't carry any money to and from the WSOP at all. I don't wear any 'bling" either. I don't own a credit card, so seriously, go rob someone else, I'm worthless to you."

They wire money to the casino or bring bellagio flags and cranberries. Bellagio chips are virtually a second form of currency in any major casino in the country.

in all honesty, no I don't have a bank account. So if I have an Irish bank account with an Irish bank and travel to a casino in Australia, will I be able to withdraw money from my bank account whilst remaining in the casino?

Depends on the bank. I've had a euro account with a big american bank that has branches everywhere and can withdraw pounds at the branches in London without transaction fees. Other banks have agreements with each other - a friend of mine visited and he knew that his bank on the continent had an agreement with a bank in the UK and he could withdraw money here. Also, if nothing like that is in place, you could still withdraw by paying the bank fees (typically around 2%).However, I've never tried to withdraw sums you would need for a big tournament in one go, that might actually be a problem.Apparently Elky takes the money with him, which got him into trouble with customs in spain: http://www.sk-gaming.com/content/26183-Elk...stoms_by_police

Daniel had a lot of problems carrying cash that he wrote once in a blog at a Miami Airport. Fantastic blog entry, includes FBI, interrogations, etc.http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-jour...40&archive=

Hadn't seen that one yet; must have been a scary (but in hindsight funny) experience.
