Figured this might be a good place to ask this question.I want to upgrade my DirectTV receiver from a standard to an HD DVR receiver. Does the receiver need to be hooked up to a land line in order to record shows? This is for my room and I don't have any phone jacks in there. I know you definitely need to hook up the receiver to a landline to order PPV, but what about using the DVR?

You need a land line for the scheduling to download. I use this at home, and it does require a hard wired phone line.

I'm thinking about picking this up since it's in my price range and the reviews seem to be good on it. Can anyone take a look at it and give me their opinion?http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasonic+-+VI...mp;st=panasonic veira
I wouldn't....You can get a 1080p LCD for around that price range I think, especially a non big name brand like that. For example: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insignia%26%23...p;skuId=9155479For another 100 or so you can bump up some of the specs too.

Also it's a plasma and if the room you are going to watch it in has any sunlight an LCD is a much better choice.

Yea, I read that about Plasma TVs but I'm also mainly going to be using it for Video Gaming and I heard Plasmas are better for that since it has a faster refresh rate. So If I'm just going to use it for my Xbox would you guys still say go with the LCD?

The new LCD's are pretty fast too. I doubt you'd notice either way....I have a Plasma and I want an LCD. I don't exactly have burn-in issues, but I have some other issue that I can't really explain. Basically, I get tiny red dots towards the bottom of my screen when things are on screen for awhile, if you have a totally white screen it lessens it briefly, but it always comes back, it's just there when the TV is on though, so I don't know how to categorize it. Definitely shows up more when playing a game where there are static images that are on the screen constantly, then when the screen changes you've got an outline of the image in little red dots. Super annoying. Clearly that won't happen with all TV's, but that, plus the fact Plasma's run hot, take up way more electricity, and aren't as good in brighter lights... go for LCD or LED.
