So, what do you think. Of course, I think He was who He said He was. You know that. What do you think though? Was he the Lord, was he just a lying troublemaker, or was he crazy?
I just realized who you are involved with. Now I get it.

Ugh, I've heard this sermon too many times. You're attempt to "trap" us with this argument is disingenuous. Just come out with the point you're making and you'll get some responses.

No point. Seriously, I know this is a question some Christians use to trap people with, but in all honesty I was just curious.

You should probably add choices for "didn't exist" or "was misquoted" just to be fair.Incidentally, I recently read the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to my son and I noticed that C.S. Lewis echoes his argument with respect to Lucy. Some of that stuff flew past me as a kid.

Yeah I might should have put those in, but it's hard to find many people who believe he didn't exist. Even American Atheists Inc said, "Only the most skeptical atheists believes that Jesus didn't exist." And "he was misquoted" is not really aimed at who he was.

If he didn't really claim to be Lord, then he doesn't have to fall into lord, lunatic, or liar.

"was he just a lying troublemaker," Yea.... prolly just a trouble maker. Nail my hands and feet to a cross and beat the crap out of me... hang me up in the air for days... run a sword through my lungs to speed up my dying.... I'll take it because I was just stirring up trouble.Yea...that's prolly it.Maybe he didn't know how far to take the joke? Yea...that makes sense. Is my sarcasm coming across?

Where is the option for Jesus being a wise philosopher whose words were twisted by the powers that be so that his words could be used more easily to control the masses.Thats the one I pick.

That's a real good point. One that's hard to argue with. I just don't think so many people would have been willing to die for him and because of him if that were the case. It's one thing to think someone is really cool... and it's quiet antoher thing to be beaten and tortured to death for thinking that. But that is a valid angle to take. It's one I used to take as well.

Than it would make more sense for the powers that be to keep him alive.

A lot of people were more then willing to die for Hitler so your argument is moot.

LOL... I doubt anyone walked to a cross under their own will or stood in line waiting their turn to be stoned to death for Hitler. You must have read some different books than the ones I did about him. And I wasn't arguing about anything.... just making an observation.

muhammad would have been a better comparison. in any case historically there's no shortage of people who have willingly given their lives for beliefs other than christianity. the martyrs as evidence argument doesn't work.

What about the 12 Apostles. They would have known the validity of their religion's claims. Would their willing sacrifice not be more valueable then the 2 women in Baghdad last night?

even in modern times people have been fooled into giving their lives for cult leaders they've had direct experience with. assuming it's true that anyone who knew jesus in person did give their life for him it doesn't mean anything. humans are gullable.

in terms of it being evidence that what they believed in was true, no absolutely not.

So a guy who lives with Christ for 3 years, sees Him killed, then hatches a story with his buddies to pretend Jesus rose from the grave; This same guy lives with this lie, makes little to no money, is kicked out of city after city, and finally years later is tortured and killed, and never denies the story. He's the same as some people that drank Koolaid with Jim Jones while Jim's henchmen held guns to their heads. You reach too far to make this stick

people have done crazier things than convince themselves a lie is true and die for it. anyway that's an idealization and there's no reason to think that's remotely close to what actually happened. there's no extra-biblical contemporary evidence that anyone who was martyred for christiantiy actually knew jesus.
You reach too far to make this stick
it's not a reach to say that the notion of martyrdom being evidence that a belief is true is stupid.

Man, I really could go for some christian porn right now.

Your poll really blows. It doesn't come close to encompassing all the possible views on Jesus.
