  1. I had almost the exact same hand happen to me when I played the PartyPoker new player freeroll.I managed to get to the final table with the 3rd highest stack. As soon as we get to the final table, this one small stack starts raising people's blinds every hand and then going all-in on the flop every time. The first person to call him actually runs into a big hand, so he gets to the point where we have about equal chipstacks. Along comes my BB and he raises to 4xBB from middle position. I've got KQo and since he's been stealing blinds for a while, I call him not putting him on a premium han
  2. Hi All,Just wanted to thank the person who posted this. I've been having a lot of fun playing this site with the free $25. I've gotten it up to about $100 playing the .25 NL tables since you can't really get power points at the .10 tables. Would've been up around $150, but I played a bit drunk last night and lost $50 trying to bluff too much. But one thing has been bothering me about the site. It seems like the miracle draws happen quite frequently at this site as opposed to others or real life situations. I've made 4 straight flushes in the 3 days I've playing there (seriously, if it's ch
  3. You can't really compare your 10+1 SnG to Gus's televised tourney with ~$1m first place money. For one, Gus is already a millionaire and isn't going to think twice about losing out on the ~ 2x buy-in money that he gains by going out on the bubble. That's obviously not the case for you since we're talking about it. Also, when Gus makes these calls, he's looking to create a table image not only for the tourney he's playing in, but for the cash games against people who see the tourney on TV and the endorsements he gets from the reputation he's built. The tourney prizes are nice, but they're
  4. First, you should give more details about the situation. Slow-playing high pockets before the flop should be done rarely, but occasionally, in NL and you should have a definite reason for doing so...something like an overly-agressive player you want to take a big pot from or trying to setup a table image that allows you to cheaply see flops with drawing hands. It's also best to do it when you're in an early position since it's hard to raise an amount which will only get you 1 or 2 callers and you don't want to end up against too many other hands and also don't want to scare everyone off when
  5. Now now...that's being a bit careless on your part. Terrorism/WMD/Evil Saddam may be disingenuous reasons to invade a country, but that doesn't mean there weren't definite reasons for going to war. The fact that Saddam wouldn't spend his oil money having Bechtel, Halliburton and company build out Iraq the way they did Saudi Arabia is more than they've needed to invade a country in the past. Add to that the fact that Saddam was *gasp* thinking of selling his oil for euros instead of dollars, and you have two very good reasons why people who stand to make a ton of money rebuilding Iraq and ot
  6. First, I'd like to say that I agree with others when they say that your play was correct if your aim was to win the tournament but incorrect if you wanted to make the final table and place as highly as possible. But I think you made that decision before the flop rather than when you called his 40,000. If your raise had been smaller, you would have left yourself the possibility to think that your hand was probably good but that it wasn't worth the risk at that point in the tournament. I know you were trying to steal, but it's still important to realize that trying to steal means you'll be in
  7. Maybe another lesson to be learned from that piece of advice is not to act so quickly with AA or KK. If you find youself in that situation with one of those two hands, take a little time to pretend to think about it. Best case you get a call or a raise from a lower hand behind you. Worst case, you give youself some thinking time for the more difficult calls because you've shown a willingness to do a little acting with a monster hand.
