  1. They've only committed to one year as the second year is the NHL's option. It's not like they had a multitude of offers to consider.I think they could have stayed with ESPN for less money, maybe $50m a year. Yeah, they lose some up front, but you have a much larger potential audience with ESPN.ESPN declined an option @ 50m for last season... ESPN has come out and said that the product's value has dropped, so if they wouldn't pay 50 then, why now? The league took the only option they had. Besides that, the games were only on ESPN2 the last season they played I believe, because ESPN had NBA.
  2. you didn't seriously put a checking line center (Marchant) over one of the most exciting young players (Zherdev), did you?
  3. because they're grandfathering that rule in... Jagr just happens to be the only one it applies to.And nobody can bitch about him getting paid that, because that money was thrown at him by Ted Leonsis.... I'm sure you wouldn't turn it down, either. Jagr has NEVER had a contract dispute in his entire career, period.
  4. I have heard this alluded to many times, but does anyone have the full story? I know everytime a coaching vacancy comes up, one of the first people I think of is Nolan. The only time I think he really got close was with the Rangers. And AJS, I remember that game 6 Lemieux goal. It is really hard to tell if it was a strange bounce or what it was. I know the Sabres definatly had the Pens on the ropes. When the Pens faced the Devils in the East finals that year they looked out of place. I dont think the Sabres would have looked as much out of place. It is hard to imagine someone losing on purpose
  5. it may take a few days for the check to post to your account, but they check immediately and the money is locked up immediately. The problem is between you and your bank if you manage to spend it before it posts officially, I do believe.
  6. thanks, Capt Obvious... since dogs can't speak though, give it a shot and post your results! Like a race from 0 to 10,000 porcupine spines.
  7. Who will Forsberg play with? And most importantly, who will fill his spot on the top line when he's out 40 or so games with various injuries? Philadelphia isn't a very deep team at all... and the Hatcher signing? Not exactly a coup.
  8. that's a pretty good PP unit, but not as good as the one they'll actually put on the ice... subtract Recchi, add Malone, for his presence in front of the net.GO PENS!
  9. uhhh... Esche is unsigned, and the Flyers have about 11.75 remaining, barely enough for a QUiznos sub.
  10. did you have a specific team in mind with this, or just throwing it out generally?
  11. when the 2 year deals expire, they'll be a combined 187 years old.
  12. lol... is it possible to talk about any Philadelphia team in the last 20 years without the word "loss" somewhere in it? Doubt it. With LeClair and Amonte gone, I don't think the Flyers have a single player that was alive last time they won a cup! What about JR? Plus who cares. The times they are a changin. They have the best AHL team that is gonna feed 4 or 5 top of the line players to a team that is one of the strongest in the league. They are certainly one of the favorites to win the cup this year. That isn't really an argument is it?A team that has so little room under the cap that

  14. anyone else feel out of breath after reading one of this clown's posts?
  15. rumor has it, Brodeur wore himself out over the long offseason sleeping with the rest of his in-laws.
  16. Yes, like I already said above, the Pens will make a run at Neidermayer... and rumor has it, Neidermayer would LOVE to play with Mario. MAF will be the go to guy in net, but they'll probably bring a vet in to at least push MAF, Caron, and Chiodo. The Pens don't have a solid #1 d-man (until Neidermayer signs, anyways) but they've got tremendous depth... the Ric 'n Dick connection, Josef Melichar, Michael Rozsival, and a slew of top prospects led by Ryan Whitney, Noah Welch, and Paul Bissonnette.I wouldn't count on Neidemeyer being a lock to go to the Pens. It is being reported all over the pl

  18. I think the fact that the Pens will have the #1 draft pick this year and the #2 draft pick from two years ago playing on a line with Mario Lemieux in front of the first goaltender ever selected number one will make the team a force all by itself. Unless Sidney Crosby can't hack it in the NHL (Jason Bonsignore, anyone?)Pens arent likely to put a line out there with 3 centers... Mario can play LW, which he'll do with Crosby centering, but Malkin will be centering the second line with Ryan Malone and most likely Kovalev.
  19. LeClair has never done a thing without Lindros centering his line, and besides that, he's well past his prime, and an injury prone floater... meanwhile, in his final 3 seasons in Pittsburgh, Kovalev averaged well over 1 PPG, and the fans absolutely LOVE him... second only to Lemieux all time in popularity in the city (well, pre-Crosby at least). Kovalev has never had the sort of success he had in Pittsburgh anywhere else... he's an absolute PERFECT fit for the 2nd line in Pittsburgh, and playing the point on the PP. Kovalev to Pittsburgh is about as certain a lock as anything. While Leclair

  21. They'll keep him. He'll do fine this year, then probably split duties with Tellqvist next year, and then retire. I'm more interested to see what they do on defence, whether they keep all three of Klee, Kaberle, and McCabe. Lot of good defencemen are available as free agents. My sentimental favourite defenceman for the Leafs to pick up is Dmitry Yuskevich. No idea if they'll do it, but I always liked that russkie. For other completely unsubstantiated rumours:Eric Lindros has always been interested in playing for Toronto. That might be interesting to see, if he'd be willing to take a pretty dramat
  22. Did they? The last thing I had heard was mid-season 03-04 when he announced he was out for the year, and would probably be back behind the Wings pipes next season.Of course, that was a long time ago.behind the pipes? Dude doesn't even know where to stand anymore, he should hang 'em up.
  23. Allowing the 2 line pass doesn't solve a thing on its own, you're right. The key to an opened up game is if the league can finally come through on its year in and year out promise to call all clutching and grabbing much more closely. Someone mentioned that they could lose as many fans as they gain with the rules changes... considering the NHL's current fan base is rivaled by that of professional shuffleboard, I don't think losing fans is much of a concern. The only people that want to watch a 1-0 game with 18 total shots on goal isn't a hockey, he (she) is a soccer fan.
  24. I cashed out 2 weeks ago, and still haven't seen my check... so don't count on using your money anytime in the next few weeks, at least.
  25. That article was written before there was ever even a lawsuit. And if I typed in here "So last week, I saw Albert Pujols, and his comment to his waiter was 'I really am actually 37 years old.'" would that make it true, just because I said "Pujols's comments"?
