HubDub04 0
I am just looking through some payouts of previous events compared to this years events and the LAPC Main Event (going on now) had a first place payout last year of $2,5xx,xxx.This year its about $1,000,000 less and set at $ 1,500,000. Now I know that the LAPC is one of the most popular stops on the WPT because of the great cash game action and luxurious accommodations but why is there a decline in players/prize pool?Does this mean that we will continue to see a decline in entrants to major events or is there another big tournament going on elsewhere that I am unaware of? Or am I just missing a key component to why this is happening?

mhoward29 0
I think poker is at a stand still, it has platuoed. Also the problem is some of the new players that started 3-5 years ago are now broke and wont put anymore money into the poker world.Edit: [x] imo

Balloon guy 158
Don't forget about Britney Spears. She's the queen of declining popularity.Thought that was a given, but thank you. Hub was very disappointed and I will now have to redo my "Ways the world works" chart to better reflect current trends and online phenoms.
CaneBrain 95
The decline in tournament entrants can be most directly linked to the toughening of US laws against online poker sites. Depositing money became more difficult (until Full Tilt decided to accept credit card weeeeee!)....and more importantly online sites pay out their satellite tournament prizes differently due to the new rules. You get cash now (if you are in the USA) not an entry and many people probably just take the cash.Obv. there are more reasons: bad players have gone broke, popularity has plateau'ed, etc.... Sure, the WSOP is alot of online qualifiers, but I'd be willing to wager that a large % of the field in this tourney is in on their own dime or live sat's.

What does online poker have to do with live poker in this case? There weren't online satties running to the LAPC, that I know of. IMO, if anything the laws should HELP the LAPC, because people can't deposit online so they go to the casinos. The last two reasons are probably the reality and have already been mentioned.A for effort, though. And you edited just as I quoted this. And thats where that million from 1st place went.

Balloon guy 158
I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don’t have poker, and, uh, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and I believe that they should, our education over here in the US should help the US, er, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our children. king_tanner 84
Here is my contribution:1. Too many events scheduled.2. European players staying in Europe (EPT)3. There is a million WSOP events so people might be just saving up to play that instead of WPT events.4. No more Partypoker in USA (less satellite winners?)
