Charts and records?

Recommended Posts

I didn't read the artical you are refering to, but most good poker players keep records of wins and losses, how long they played, etc. So they can figure how much money they are making per hour. Also, you can detect leaks in your bankroll, know when you are playing poorly, etc. Then you can go back and analyze your play over that period of time and hopefully figure out what caused it.

I keep records that are reasonably detailed. For Holdem I use pokertracker (which pays for itself if you can eliminate one leak from your game). For all poker I keep an excel sheet with the following columns: Date, Game (NL Holdem/Stud/etc), Type (SNG/Tournament/Ring), Buyin (includes tourney rake), place/time (tournament structure I mark the finish, ring game the amount of time spent playing), and the payout.I then have formula columns tracking month-to-date and year-to-date. I can use filters to quickly parse a specific buyin/game and get a quick result. I play all structures and all games, otherwise I really would not know where I am winning and losing - and that's information I want to have.

I haven't completely figured out pokertracker yet... but I am working on it. I do 3 things when I play online.... I mark down every hand I play, how profitable it was, the pos, w/lI mark down time, total bankroll start and total session productionThis I just started on Wednesday last week. I took and note book, and started to write a summary of the day, every table I played the results, the best thing I did, and the mistakes I made.

for online, definetly pokertracker, it pays for itself very fastfor live play, use pokercharts.com, it's very easy to use and works good. You put in the location that you played, how long, what you bought in for and what you left with, what limits you were playing, any notes you have on the session, any known opponents you were against, how hard the game was, or if it was a trny what place you finished in. It takes everything that you enter and gives you a stats page telling ROI, total income, avg. per hour rate, avg. session length, a graph that you can configure to tell you lots of different things, and some other stuff.records are good... and very easy to keep with these 2 programs. Btw pokercharts.com is free

I don't know what Daniel's records look like, but in one of his articles he says he kept track of EVERYTHING. So I imagine they were very detailed. If you play poker online, you HAVE to get pokertracker. I think it's about $55. Trust me it is well worth it. www.pokertracker.comIf you play B & M you should check out this free site:http://www.pokercharts.com/

Like a well quoted pro said, poker is a bussiness. As such good record keeping is invaluable. I see there are a few items for purchase that help you to do this, but imo, it pays to understand the calculations behind the numbers, so i vote for using an excel spread sheet as it gives you the ability to manipulate your data in any way imagineable. If anyone wants a template ive got let me know. Peace
