poker and philosophy

Recommended Posts

Very interesting. I've been thinking on stories to write along these lines, but never really hit on any of it in that way...couldn't put my finger on it. Not like I had a lot of time to devote to that...But no. This sounds decent. I'm gonna have to nab a copy when it comes out.I do think that it's interesting that in that excerpt he talks a lot about (within the context of the philosophical scope) why poker is played and not mentioning once about the obvious reason. Money. Most of his essay seems bent on some "thrill of the game" idea rather than that all important motivator. Granted, through the philosophy it's like trying to compare a pro player with a monk in that a monks fighting styles are not there to start static, when in fact a poker pros skills are there for getting in the mix and taking chips. In fact instigating and taking down. There might be something in that for me to work with...dunno. I'm definitely picking up a copy of that book though. Coolness, snoogins.
