what kind of buyin do i need?

Recommended Posts

I just play recreationally, I win money overall (+$130 in the last 10 NL homegame tourneys or so) but I don't keep a bankroll apart from my normal money. I can easily afford the recreational $30 buyins for local tourneys without a special fund for it.If I want to go to a local casino and play 1/2 anywhere up to 3/6 what kind of money should I show up with? I've not played much limit poker except online free-games. Lets say I want to spend 4 hours in a casino playing a 2/4 game, how much should I bring to ensure I can play 4 hours without running out of money? I'm confident enough in my playing ability to win a decent number of hands, even if I'm not ahead at the end of the night, so I don't plan on losing every single hand... :D

I wouldn't sit down with more than $200 even for the 3/6 game. I know others like to sit down with more but I usually sit down with 30 times the big blind, just the way I play. :D ~Slick~

for NL i think you should always buy for the max allowed.for limit games, it depends on the looseness and how you play. for someone playing a lot of hands, somewhere in the range of 50 big bets sounds right. i play relatively tight in my super-loose 2-5 games and i've never gone broke buying in for $100. for most games that aren't too loose, 25-30 big bets is plenty - so long as if you lose a couple pots you add-on so you don't play too short.cheers, daniel
