Getting Into The Zone...

Recommended Posts

The posts about frustration, cold streaks, and quitting poker got me thinking...Athletes will tell you that the difference between a star and a super star is that ability to find the zone where you relax and just do what you have worked and trained to do. Have you ever been playing (poker, pool, basketball, anything), and the game just slowed down? The pockets became huge, the basket massive, your opponents slow? You know what your opponent is going to do before he does? Heck you feel like you can make your opponent do what you want him to do.Non poker players or novices think that talk like this is nonsense. You can't "know" what someone has or is about to do. But even though I am somewhat of just an experienced novice, I have felt like this sitting at a poker table.

yea-you can also be in the anti-zone where it does seem like you lose all the hands that you were a favorite in
You are not kidding.Playing at the casino the other day I hit KK. Girl two seats to my left raised me. I KNEW she had a middle pair. I also KNEW I could get her to call me all in......problem is lately KK has been my Kryptonite.....I got her to go all in head's up with me before the flop.As she flipped over her pair of 10s - I looked at the guy across the table from me. He was a pretty experienced player that I had played with several times at this casino. I said: "I am WAY behind" He said: "No way, you played it perfectly, you've got all the money in the pot, pre-flop, head's up, and a 4 to 1 favorite"...but somehow I KNEW that the flop was gonna kill me...10/7/2

I don't understand your comments B & C.Wasn't really meant to be a Strategy nor Bad Beat post, but for clarification... we were playing TxHE NL and I had maybe a couple hundred bucks that covered the girl's stack...
