where are more fishies -- online or casinos?

when you make a thread in strategy, start off every one withONCE UPON A TIMEcause all your doin is talkin about some poker hand that you encountered.  It's like an outlet to vent or get approval or whatever kind of reaction your lookin forstrategy   BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
I guess you could say that...I look at the strategy forum to have a place to discuss a hand or situation that you've encountered and to see if you made the optimal decision. Something that I am regularly concerned with is trying to see if I not only played a hand in the best possible way, but also whether or not I maximized the amount of money I win from a pot I take down. That's one poker strategy topic I'm always concerned with. From your recent posts I would venture a guess that you never discuss poker hands with anyone. If you do, then why not share some of your wisdom in the strategy forum as well. Perhaps we could learn a thing or two from you (and vice versa).PEACE!
you could,.............. and of course i could learn from you. The problem with that is there are other variables that are not discussed in the particular hands. There are so many other factors about why your opponents did what they did. Again, alot of those variables have to do with human behavior. So when you discuss how a hand played out in strategy, it doesn't mean that thats how you should play that type of situation all the time.

True, but 90% of the hands (if not more) discussed in the strategy forum are regarding hands that have occured online, so we don't have the human behaviour factor. The best we have is PT stats to make up for that. Some people mention PT stats when discussing certain hands which help describe the situation and paint a clearer picture as to the other variables (i.e human behavior) of the other players involved in a hand...that definitely helps bring out some of the variables/factors that you mention as not being there in online poker. When someone brings up a hand and posts stats on a "fish" or "calling station" it definitely helps me decide what I think would be the optimal play. Just as I assume you categorize certain players in live play (as do I) when helping determine what would be your best play in a certain situation. Because it is online we are missing the "getting a read on the player" factor that you get in live games. PT helps with that because you are able to use it to support your read on a player, but I agree...you get a better read on a player in a live game situation, and PT only provides a glimpse into what you think should be the best play in a certain situation.I would say that it is nearly impossble to discuss all of the elements that occur at a particular table or hand, in either live play or online. There's just too many elements that ONLY YOU KNOW/OBSERVE. The strategy forum is there just like a good poker buddy is...to help you with your play, discuss the best play in a certain situation, maximizing your wins, how good or bad you played a particular hand, or to vent about a maniac who cracked your Aces with 83 off suit. It's not the definitive answer on poker play, just consider it your support group.I don't mean this to be sarcastic at all...Diabolical, Do you play poker online? If so, you should really download PT. It makes up for the human behavior element (somewhat) that is missing in online poker play. Being able to make certain plays because you have stats that can make up for that missing element is heaven sent (IMO). Not to mention, it has helped tremendously with my live play as well.If you ever want to go play with me at one of the local spots, PM me, I'd be happy to discuss with you in person and hopefully troll for LA minnows.

Here in California, the cardrooms cannot expand to meet the expanding demand for poker. So there's only so much space available for the fishies.Online, there are tables and tables and tables and tables full of fishies, and more open up when more fishies login. There are (guess) 100x more tables available for me to "sit down" at online than there are within an hour's drive of where I live. Even the Commerce Casino in Souther California, the world's largest cardroom, is like a smallish online poker site in terms of the games it offers. My maxim for online poker: "If you look around the table and you can't spot the good player, it's you."

Poker Tracker costs $50, the best $50 I have ever spent on poker. If you play poker online, you must purchase PT. Some people don't like it, at the limits I play at online, I swear by it. Again, it's not the definitive answer when it comes to poker, but it helps you paint a clearer picture of those elements/factors that just aren't there with online poker. PT also helps you review your sessions after you play, and will also help you determine how much you are making (or losing) by playing poker. Consider Poker Tracker the E-Harmony of online dating websites, it's the best!...Buy it.I live in LA, more specifically in Studio City. PM when you want to play. I usually play live 1-2 times per week at various limits. I play 90% LHE live. Have been frequenting Hawaiian lately, but am probably going to hit up my favorite little pond (Hollywood Park) more now that the horses are over at Santa Anita.
