i don't want to cheat, but..

Recommended Posts

Crossposting from "online" after 20 hours and no replies... I would like to play poker at the same table with my wife without having to go to the university to do so. But if we both log in and sit at the same table together, from the same IP address, the poker software would certainly notice, right? So no go.ButMy school lets faculty and students use a VPN client to access the campus intranet from off-campus, to use site-licensed software and such. A colleague explained to me "It basically gives your computer a campus ip address".Does anyone know enough about virtual private networking to verify or refute this? My understanding of internet protocol is limited, but I was under the impression that your IP address was assigned by your ISP when you logged on. Can a remote site actually change your IP address? And if so, can Frau Mensch and I sit at the same table at the same time from two computers in the same house without sending up a red flag?Mensch

Possible and hard to catch. Still a bad idea though. It's just not worth it. What's the point of winning eachother's money in the first place? If it's strictly for competition's sake then why not just play her heads up for .... favors.(Bored)

I sent an e-mail to FullTilt about this matter, and they said that you may sit at the same table on 1 IP address, as long as you are not colluding. I would send an e-mail to the site asking if this is allowable.

VPNs will disguise your IP to the point that the sites cant tell the difference. i assure you.

Yeah... and if they even get a sniff of collusion they will shut you down and take your money.
you'd think that, wouldnt you? interestingly, it doesnt exactly work that way. mostly theyll turn the other cheek and keep collecting their rake.

We're gonna give it a go at the Powerplayer freeroll tonight. I emailed UB when she started playing there and asked about avoiding even the suspicion of collusion, and they said, in essence, that we could play from the same IP, but stay off of each other's tables.JustBlaze, are you sure-sure-positive-sure? I don't intend to cheat or collude, but we would like to play together. If for no other reason than for bragging rights and the occasional "how about that move you put on guppie69!! that check on the turn because you were "scared" of that second King! Nice!" and other verbal stroking.Mensch

Well I have heard plenty of tales about people having their account shut down and thousands confiscated for playing at the same table as someone who had transferred money to them etc etcSo you will understand if I take your assertion with a pinch of salt.

Wow. That was unhelpful, even considering the source. I suppose, for clarity, I could have typed, "I don't intend to cheat".Will you accept my repentace, Wordsmith?Mensch

that has nothing to do with colluion. that has to do with party being greedy.

herr menschdu bist ein dumbkopf.
that would be dummkopf, for one thing. And for another thing, why say you this? If I'm going to play, and she's going to play, why shouldn't we play together?I'd rather lose to her than anyone else, and verse- vicea.Mensch

VPN will work. definitely do NOT email party about it, though.
