I play 5-10, when I play. I only make it about once every couple of months despite living a 10 minute walk away, because I always have other commitments on Friday and Saturday nights. The signup list for 5-10 is usually 12-15 people, which can take an hour or two to get through. The list for 10-20 is usually very short, if there's a list at all, and 15-30 varies quite a bit. 5-10 is incredibly soft. People bluff at huge pots with nothing. Always 2-3 (or more) dead money calling stations. It's soft all year 'round, but the tourists in the summer make it even softer. The pimped-up University crowd (sunglasses, hat, pounding the table every time you call their bluff with 2nd pair) tend to be overaggressive, but there are a couple of exceptions. From my experience, the really bad University players either get good by December or stop playing (Daddy won't fund their foolishness anymore). The best players are pretty easy to spot, too. It wouldn't take more than two rotations of the blinds to separate the 10 or so people who've bothered to learn the game, versus those donkey regulars who simply use Rounders as their playing guide.I might be there Saturday night. Look for the guy in the brown turtleneck with the curly blonde hair. Hopefully, I'll be sitting next to Les or someone else I can chat with.I can't say much about the 10-20 or 15-30 games, but if others here say that they are soft, I'll believe them.vvganeshavv: We're talking about Halifax, Nova Scotia; not Halifax, Virgina. I don't think there are any casinos in Virginia (though I could be wrong. Never trust the internet to give you complete information). The closest cardrooms to Halifax, Virginia are probably those in Atlantic City.

Mostly online, but have played the $35 tourny at the dart club a couple of times.I tried my luck at the Halifax NL tounament but could not get anything going. Had a real bad run of cards and was about the 20th person eliminated on friday.

What did you think of the dart club ? I thought it was less then average. Pretty soft but the organization was terrible. No idea how to move players from table to table properly. And rules varied from table to table, just my opinion though.

Smoothcaller and Toxic: You ever play in this?http://www.maritimemagic.ca/pokerclassic.htmlI played in it the other day. I did really well, got a chiplead, but made a couple mistakes in two hands that finished me. I was not at all impressed with the competition. Easy to run over, and also easy to get pretty good action when you've got a great hand. One hand:I have pocket eights, I raise it up and get two callers pre-flop.I flop an eight. I checked, guy after me bets twice the BB. One fold. I smoothcall, intent on a trap.Turn, check check. It paired fours, giving me the nut boat.River, I make a bet, maybe 6 - 800, and get a smoothcall. I was dissapointed, because I let a flush hit after I made my boat and was hoping to bust someone with a nut flush. I gave my opponent too much credit, I think, because the showdown was like this:He, cocky as hell, flips an eight up and throws it on top of the muck, to show it down. I think this might have made his hand dead and he didn't realise, but it didn't matter. I flipped up my eights and said "eights full".He said "Woh, I was happy to have the pair with the highest card out there.Yeah. Top pair, an eight, and he was pretty well committed to the idea that he had the best hand with a straight and flush on the board (not ON the board, but possible with the board...you know..). Plus, he may or may not have mucked his hand while showing it down, I'm not sure. Plus, he only showed one card, which I consider a mark of a bad player.CT

I thought he did a decent enough job I guess. It could have been better but it could have been alot worse. I would guess 1/3 of the players have no idea what they are doing. I was able to double up early both times I played. For example:First one I played in May, on the very first hand I am dealt KK.I was on the button and it was folded to me and I limp. I did not want to get into trouble early, just wanted to lay low. SB folds and the BB checks.Flop - 8 K 3 (dream flop but I am thinking that I will probably just pick up the blinds)BB immediately goes ALL IN. (What??? :-) )I call and end up with a full house. The BB had two 9's. closetwin: yea I have heard of that one and was thinking about checking it out although I am not a real fan of the rebuys.
