Quick question re: WPT announcers.

Recommended Posts

Just wondering, when Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patton announce the tourney's on TV, I assume that it's done later on, during editing and what not, so if that's the case, what are they saying during the tourney? I mean, they sit so close to the action, so they couldn't be seeing the hands live, could they?

I was playing up at foxwoods in a $500 buy-in NL Tournament WPT event, and Sexton was at my table and he said that they do their announcing after the tournament, but during any hands which someone is "all-in" and their cards are exposed they do that commentating live.Brian

... They do live commentary on what they see at the table as they have a TV screen in front of them showing the variety of camera angles on what is called a 'switcher feed'. They do lead-ins ("Welcome Back to Foxwoods...") and lead-outs. They then go into ADR and do commentary after seeing the hands. The editors will cut and splice it all together to the extent that you can hardly tell what was said live, and what was added later. And, uh, yeah smash, lotsa fun stuff like that...

That was quite possibly the funniest post I've ever read on any message board. My thoughts exactly.

When I watch the WPT now I Tivo it and watch it the first time on mute, then later go back and listen to the rediculous commentary as a joke. This is my favorite though:Vince: Uh oh Mike he's picked up the REAL hand here a pair of fives wired in his hand, a pocket pair of fives, the speed limit as we call it here in the poker world the two fives, fifty five. We're definelty see a re-raise here.Mike: Wow he's raiseing is he speeding with these two fives.Who talks like this it is so rediculous. Also I like " he's gonna check an ace? I don't like this play Vince, in a four handed game you have to raise pre-flop with an ace."All this while the guy is holding Ace 3. Like checking Ace rag is unheard of? These guys are the reason for all of the bad play at the local casinos.

HAHA!! Ok, I was seriously laughing at this one... and I'm at the library right now, so it's quite embarrasing because there's some guy behind me reading some big book. Very funny stuff, and I also liked the Chris Ferguson comment! Ok... I think I got it together now, whew!

Well I guess I want to say thank you, I may take a bad beat from some bad play every now and then but in the long run I am way up on those bad plays!!

Yeah Vince is a chump and annoys the heck out of me. He always says someone has a wired pair before the flop but isn't that redundant since the flop hasn't come yet, all pairs are wired before the flop right :?: Someone will be getting great cards and he'll act like they are out playing everyone.
