2017-18 Canadian Gothic

Recommended Posts

I decided not to Aho Danton Heinen or Alex Kerfoot. Both could've been signed for the next two years at $0.50 per year, but I didn't want to drop any players.

I plan to Aho Chlapik, Lettieri and Capobianco for $0.25 each.

Updated Gothic/pkdealers bets through Jan20th   Dale can you check your list as well, i don't think I am missing anything   Cash $5 bets, I have 15 wins, 18 loses, I am down $15. Food bets, 4 win

Maybe another suspect was someone who was on the same continent as kerfoot and was still steaming about the -2.5 he put on the board Tuesday night?

Get in line.

I missed Malkin only has 2 games. That's a good break.

Meanwhile, he's got no answer for your top end D at 5 games each. Big edge.

Looking at a copy of my projections, pre-trade deadline, I have you as a pretty big favorite. I would say Gothic in 5 games.

The best defense in the regular season combined for only 3 assists in 5 playoff games.

The 13th ranked goalies give up only 5 goals in 5 playoff games.

Go figure.

Had a long closed-door meeting this morning. The takeaway is we need more goals and assists. A big key to victory tonight will be Kerfoot's 6 minutes of icetime (maybe 7 because of back-to-back) against NSH goalies.

Gostisbehere is an auto-play. He's been slumping, but a goal last game might be a sign of things to come. PHI fighting for a playoff spot. I expect something from him tonight.

Muzzin is playing well lately and is against my goalies tonight. LA is playing the 2nd of a back-to-back so that may hurt the offense, but it didn't last time. Hoping him and Carter teamup for a couple of 1.5ers.

Miller can score and gets PP time. He's my only VGK option with Smith still out. VGK at home to VAN is a little frightening with Karlsson in my opponents lineup. Really hoping for a Miller-Karlsson wash.

Leddy has been shit lately, but he's still my 4th best option. He gets PP time and I can't give up a shot at 1.5ers with Lee in what could be a high-scoring game with PIT.

Bench

J. Jerabek is a last resort.

T. Daley is my 5th choice tonight. He's scored a few goals, but no.

N. Zaitsev is sick and doubtful.

Goalies

Available:

WSH (vs DAL)

WPG (vs LAK)

Both my options are at home. WPG is the better defensively and is playing LAK who played last night. DAL has Benn, Seguin and Radulov and are fighting for a playoff spot. WSH without Kuznetsov and Orpik. Holtby has been less than good. WSH is -135 with 5.5 O/U while WPG is -180 with 5.5 O/U also.

WSH 214 GA in 72 GP. WPG 189 GA in 72 GP.

DAL 209 GF in 73 GP. LAK 211 GF in 73 GP.

Plus the Carter/Muzzin factor... gotta go with WPG.

Forwards

Available:

J. Guentzel PIT (@ NYI)

A. Lee NYI (vs PIT)

N. Foligno CLB (@ NYR)

V. Lettieri NYR (vs CLB)

D. Caggiula EDM (@ CAR)

B. Ryan OTT (vs FLO)

S. Couturier PHI (@ DET)

P. Marleau TOR (@ TBL)

J. Carter LAK (@ WPG)

B. Wheeler WPG (vs LAK)

A. Kerfoot COL (@ CHI)

H. Sedin VAN (@ VGK)

K. Labanc SJS (vs NJD)

R. Smith VGK (vs VAN) injured

M. Johansson NJD (@ SJS) injured

Four easy choices...

Wheeler is an auto-play. He's up to 80 points on the season, gets to feed Laine on the PP and can set up goals from his ass.

Couturier is an auto-play for me too. He's been in a goal-scoring slump, but he's still getting chances and picking up assists. PHI fighting for the playoffs.

Carter is another auto-play. Eight goals in 18 games. In terms of PPG he's my 5th best forward (Reilly Smith is 4th).

Lee has been an auto-play all season for me...even when he was slumping. Near the leaders in goals and playing for a team that doesn't play defense against another team that only considers it.

...one not so easy choice, but still not too difficult...

Guentzel plays for PIT and shares the ice with guys named Crosby, Malkin, Kessel. Playing against NYI, the worst defensive team in the league right now.

...and one difficult choice...

Lettieri is a no.

Caggulia also a no.

Kerfoot no.

H. Sedin no.

That leaves four guys to consider: Foligno, Ryan, Marleau and Labanc.

Bobby Ryan is the first guy I eliminate here. 0.343 PPG isn't terrible, but he's been cold and I expect my opponent will be going with FLO goalies. Any points by Ryan will still help me.

Foligno is the next guy eliminated. CLB played last night. Foligno picked up two assists and is at 0.333 PPG, but CLB didn't play very well and pretty much stole two points. A Foligno goal from my bench won't surprise me, but not worth the gamble imo.

Marleau has been petty hot lately and is up to 0.438 PPG . My opponent will have Marner in his lineup so I strongly considered using Marleau to hopefully limit the damage Marner can do. TOR is playing on the road against TBL who haven't been playing well defensively for awhile now. TBL will be looking to get their complete game back before the playoffs start. I'm thinking (HOPING) this could be a low-scoring game despite it being at 6.5 O/U right now. My opponent will have at least two (Marner, Hedman) and possibly four (Gardiner, McDonagh) players in this game...likely three.

Labanc at 0.366 PPG is my choice for 6th forward. He's been hot lately and is getting more opportunity, especially on the PP with SJS injuries. I made a bonehead play in game three of the series replacing Labanc with Sedin. Sedin got nothing and Labanc got a goal and an assist. Luckily it didn't cost me...saved my nose. My opponent has Burns so Labanc still has the damage-limiting factor Marleau has. Both he and Marleau have been scoring lately. The deciding factor is the NHL matchup...I think TBL will have a strong game tonight and I think NJD look tired...especially against ANA last game. My opponent has Hall so hopefully I'm right.

My opponents lineup will be close to this...

T. Hall NJD

M. Marner TOR

W. Karlsson VGK

R. Spooner NYR

J. Williams CAR

6th forward will probably be M. Perreault WPG although Tuch against VAN might be the choice. Opponent is going with N. Schmaltz CHI.

Defense will be...

V. Hedman TBL

B. Burns SJS

...and two of these four...

J. Slavin CAR

R. McDonagh TBL

J. Gardiner TOR

D. Orlov WSH

I'm guessing Tony/John go with Slavin and Gardiner.

Goalies will be FLO (@ OTT). CHI is also an option, but MacKinnon.

The games...

PIT @ NYI

Canadian Gothic: Guentzel (PIT), Lee, Leddy (NYI)

- cheering for an old-fashioned 7-6 game

CLB @ NYR

Shoot Loose: Spooner (NYR)

- hoping for a solid defensive game from CLB

DAL @ WSH

- Holtby can start a Vezina-like run anytime now.

EDM @ CAR

Shoot Loose: Williams, Slavin (CAR)

- go Talbot!

FLO @ OTT

Shoot Loose: FLO goalies

- I hope OTT loves playing the spoiler.

PHI @ DET

Canadian Gothic: Couturier, Gostisbehere (PHI)

- come on PHI! You're fighting for the playoffs and should win this easily.

TOR @ TBL

Shoot Loose: Marner, Gardiner (TOR), Hedman (TBL)

- focus on D guys. Defense wins championships and need to tighten up.

LAK @ WPG

Canadian Gothic: Carter, Muzzin (LAK), Wheeler (WPG), WPG goalies

Shoot Loose: Perreault (WPG)

- hoping for at least a +1 total from this one

COL @ CHI

- a MacKinnon groin injury that puts him out two weeks would be sweet here. Just kidding...or am I? Ok, stay healthy and shut down Schmaltz.

VAN @ VGK

Canadian Gothic: Miller (VGK)

Shoot Loose: Karlsson (VGK)

- as I said earlier, a wash here would be just fine.

NJD @ SJS

Canadian Gothic: Labanc (SJS)

Shoot Loose: Hall (NJD), Burns (SJS)

- put as all to bed with a 1-0 SJS win...no points from Hall, Burns or Labanc is fine.

If you had to pick between Leddy and Muzzin, you take Muzzin? I went with Leddy. Other 3 D are much better than those 2.

and disregard the opp goalie thing, Im obv asking for another league lol

Disregarding the opp goalie thing only I would definitely consider Leddy over Muzzin. I expect more goals in the NYI/PIT game. Leddy can't play as much as he does and do squat every game can he?

Ya, I was going with Leddy, was almost afraid to ask you and see "Muzzin" and make me think about it. So tired of these decisions.

from what i see, it appears Leddy can do quite a few games of squat.

I apologize for his downturn this season. Seemed to coincide with the timing of when I traded for him in FCHL. lol

While I knew a correction of some sort was coming, I didn't think it would be this bad.
