hank213 1,823
Right out of the gate I'll admit 2 things: First, I have real reservations about this show knowing the Lindelof is attached as writer/producer. Second, I didn't pay absolute attention to the show. So far i would sum it up as a mysterious event occurs and what is reported to be 2% of the world's population disappears instantly. The people left behind use this as license to behave like assholes, join a cult, or just plain go nutso. From the amount of people that seem directly effected (i.e. losing a child/spouse/sibling etc) it sure seems like more than 2% of the population disappeared. or maybe this particular burg got a disproportionate sample size. I don't know if the elk vision thing was a nod to northern exposure or not but it sure didn't end well for the elk. The teenage daughter has a nice posterior and will choke a dude while he jerks it. she may cry while doing so but for some of us, that simply is an add to experience for which we usually have to pay extra. Essay21 2,385
It was okay. I'll keep watching for now, but I'm not sold on it.
BigDMcGee 3,352
1) Trying a little to hard in the thread title, hank. 2) Why does Lindelof bother you? are you traumatized by Lost, or something? I only watched like the first 3 episodes of lost ( and bounced) and then the final episode ( which I liked way more than fans of the show, it seemed) 3) I absolutely loved this first episode. It takes a sci-fi (or, you know, religious) premise an instead of focusing on the zombie gore of it or what ever, it's taking a microscope to the emotional fall out of such a huge event would have on people. I think there's an analog to america before and after 9/11, only this would be on a much bigger scale, and be much more of an existential crisis. It would be a catalyst for basically everyone on earth being confronted with the most fundamental philosophical questions, and causing them to answer them in all kinds of ways. I'm all in. I have a feeling this is not going to be a wildly popular show, as it's going to be focusing on pain and loss so much, but I think it could be a really unique and interesting show. One thing I do know, Teenage parties are way more awesome in the post-rapture world.
hank213 1,823
re: 1) & 2) your point 1 is kinda what bothers me about Lindelof. He tries too hard to raise questions. He reminds me of the smart, but intellectually lazy, kid that asks all kinds of questions. Everyday questions, questions, questions. But never once is there any intent in answering or even discussing to the point that a conclusion could be surmised. He doesn't want to tell a story, he wants to bloviate and doesn't really care what nonsense he has to pull to do it.
BigDMcGee 3,352
Sounds like the sour grapes of a lost fan. Should have seen what crap that was early on like me and ejected, and you wouldn't have this bagged. I can't really judge, though, I stuck with heroes for 3 seasons.
SuitedAces21 2,721
lost was a good show. get off lost's nuts already.

I can't really judge, though, I stuck with heroes for 3 seasons. i did eject. the minute they said there was a polar bear on the island (ep 3? ep 4 or 5 maybe?) I said "nope!" and changed the channel. I knew it was going to be a show that got weird just for the sake of being weird but it wasn't going to be good at it like say a DAvid Lynch. even though i got out, doesn't mean i have to respect a hack. Theraflu 1,035
You're aware this is based off a book? They don't intend on answering the "why" or "how" of the rapture. Like BigD said, this is all about how people react to it. 2% is like 137 million people. Or lets say the average person knows 500 people in some way personally. 10 of them are gone. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.
hank213 1,823
well thera and suited like it. you ready to give up on it now bigd?

GWCGWC 83
Hank is not BigD or Suited but I'm guessing I know what your trying to say without actually saying something. This show is total shit and will get way way worse very quickly. I'm disappointed HBO chose this book out of all the novels available to them. So many bad decisions had to happen for this show to get a green light which is too bad. People should be fired.
