Should I Have Folded K K Pre-flop?

Recommended Posts

Live Casino MGM Grand DetroitSaturday Night $1/$2 TXHeThis is just one of those hands that show how crazy Live Poker is.MP Villain has been quiet and recently rebought.Pre Flop:Hero in late position catches KKGuy in MP Opens to $152 CallersHero raise to $50BB CallsMP Raise all-in to $136Hero thinks for a nano second and Calls. At this point I am actually thinking of the debates around here regarding folding Kings Pre-Flop. In my mind there is a very strong possibility that MP is going to show me AA or the other two Kings. But I am of the camp that thinks it is -ev to fold pocket Kings preflop even with a pretty strong read on your villain.BB tanks for Five Minutes. Desperately wants to call. Finally folds. and shows 10/10I look at him and say: "You gotta give me more credit than that sir!" and show my Kings. He says: "Hey I could have hit one of my tens, there is a lot of money out there."

Yeah. I wasn't terribly serious about folding the Kings. I just found it funny when I was in this position and thought of some of the discussions around here on the topic - I vowed to make this topic as the hand played out. Also had to laugh at what the BB showed, and even more at what the MP went all-in with. Lately it sometimes seems that Live Poker is weaker than ever.

Nope, online poker is just getting that tough. It really prepares you to dominate live.FWIW don't laugh at how he thought he made a great fold... I had a guy stack off to me 325BB deep with 10's facing a maaaasive overshove with kings.I was sitting on $800, two limpers to me on the button and I pop to $20 with KK, folds to Big Blind who repops to $80 and has $570 behind, folds to me, I hesitate momentarily, tell myself about never folding kings (yes this discussion pops up in my head during live games too) and verbally put myself all in. Before I could even touch my stack to move it he SNAP called, my heart sank, I asked him if he had aces and he flips over two tens LOL board runs out A - x - A -x - A and I would have even counterfeited his set if he hit one :club:

LOLYou probably thought "Great, my Kings are freaking crushed, but I just can't start a personal precedent of folding Kings pre-flop, if I do it is a slippery slope to self-destruction and I may have to jump off of a bridge if I do"...or something like that.It is just so difficult for me to imagine a guy getting dressed and ready to go out. Like he has any number of times before. Phoning ahead for a spot at a table. Driving to the casino. Finding a parking spot and strutting to the Poker Room. Buying in. All with the best expectations of crushing the table. Playing for a while thinking he has an edge on the table......and believing pocket tens are the nuts.

Some people seriously just have no idea why they even play poker.

:club: I actually had set this AK thing up in metagame all night on the guy... I got lucky the situation came up but I tend to carry myself in live tables like I'm some donk out on a mission. The first hand I played, 100BB deep I raised AQss from MP, this guy and also what turned out to be a tagfish came along.Flop came down 5-6-7 rainbow, I c-bet 3/4ths the pot, and both came along for the call. Turn was an A, and I checked, tagfish checks, and captain 10's bets half the pot, leaving him $70 in a pot that was now like $200. I attempted to check raise all in, but forgot the white chips in my stack movement, and after dealer discussion it was deemed a call, tagfish folds, and I move in dark, completing my attempted checkraise. River is a 3, and after deliberation and sighing he folds. I show him the queen and he goes off on this rant about how he folded top 2... I pretend to buy it and the tagfish starts going off about how he folded a set, and I just laugh.Later, after a set over set near double up, then spewing away like $150, I'm on about $650 vs the fish with Kings, raise it up, he calls from the SB, it's heads up. Flop comes 8s 10c Qh. He donk bets over the pot, and I instaovershove. He exposes his obvious queen and deliberates for a while and finally mucks. He kept pestering me about what I had, and finally I decided, fk it lets have fun."I had Ace King of clubs, I was ahead""YOU WERE AHEAD?""Sure, 15 outs is ahead in the flip. 9 clubs, 3 jacks, and 3 Kings""I'M NOT SURE ABOUT YOUR MATH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH""It's easy. 50 cards you don't know about in the deck, each out is 2%, then double it for two streets. It gets you pretty close.""THAT'S TWICE TONIGHT! YOUR MATH IS WRONG I'M SURE. WAIT, THERE WAS NO FLUSH DRAW!""Whoops, I hope that wasn't a spade, I didn't look that close." *grins*"I WOULDN'T BE SMILING! ROOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR"this is the short version of the conversation that took two full orbits while I was folding hands waiting for those kings ;)Also, the very next hand after the kings, after fish buys in for his last $40 (the house let him, private game), I picked up AhKh, limp-called with it, then folded on a total brick flop face up, just to make the fish go berserk. Entertainment has value too. I thought about limp shoving, but I never had over $1000 in profit in front of me before and was playing suuuuuper-nit, although somehow I had the image of a maniac except to the one guy who drank half a keg who actually figured it out (wtffffff).

Last night sort of a similar scenario but I wasn't in the handLive Michigan Charity Poker Room$1/$2 TXHeThree Players Early Position: Good Standard TAG. Plays position very well. Stack = $200Middle Position: Horrible Player Loose fish. Pushes and loses with marginal hands. Can't get off of any Flop where he catches any part of it. Stack = $210Late Position: Decent Tight player. Playing to have fun and be social, but makes good decisions. Stack = $200Pre Flop:EP opens to $20MP Pops to $40LP insta callsEP Shoves all-inMP nearly insta shoves LP tanks......and tanks......and flashes me his Pocket Jacks......and tanks......and flashes my buddy his Pocket Jacks......and tanks......and tanks some more......he so Desperately wants to call. He is talking out loud and just clearly wants to think his Jacks are good......Dealer and Floor tell him not to talk out loud - no speculating in a multi-way hand, even though there is no action pending (which I thought was sorta BS, but hey he is generally a very good floor)......and FINALLY he Folds.EP looks at him and says: "you were getting 2:1 on your money, you HAVE to make that call."
