Booze And Poker

Recommended Posts

I was at a 1/2 home game last night I regularly play on Friday nights. Usually the same guys and always a decent game. Lastnight some new guys came that were friends with the one guy that lives at this house and who deals. The new guys brought a bunch of rum and got hammered, and got the dealer and a few guys at the table hammered as well.Obviously I don't mind drinking, I dont drink myslef anymore, but it doesnt bother me, but when I have $400 on the table and have been playing some solid poke, its going to get to me when these guys start screaming and yelling and all of a sudden noone knows whos turn it is or who put in and who didnt and the turn card gets turned over before I make my call or not.I dont know, it just really pissed me off, I got up and left, then everyone gets mad at me for getting deep then leaving.I think I'm done with home games around here and I'll just go to the casino now. I take poke to serioulsy to be effing around like that.Anyone else have problems like this? Or I'm sure most people handle their booze better. But thanks, I just wanted to rant and rave for a minute.

it may be far fetched, but what if a fight breaks out and my $400 in chips get spread across the floor, the cops get called....etc.like where's the class. Poker is a gentlemens game.

We have a regular small stakes home game that plays pretty social which I enjoy but I do like to keep the action moving. There's one older guy who likes to tell stories while he's dealing and completely forgets about the action and what he's supposed to be doing. Last game I was two seats away and just picked up the deck and dealt the hand for him. There's another guy who never remembers to post his blinds and never recognizes when action is on him because he's far too interested in talking about whatever. Last game someone open raised and it folded to this guy who was in the BB and paying no attention. After about 30 seconds I just mucked his hand. I think he got the point.Social is great. And I don't care if people are drinking or whatever. Just keep the game moving. If you can't talk and play at the same time then play when you have cards and talk when you're out of the hand. Pretty simple really. And yeah in a self dealt game or with a drunk dealer I'd probably leave too.

You're right social is good, it's nice to chat, that way you don't get bored. But nothing is worse than having to tell that guy, "Lets go, burn and turn" or "It's your blind".

Depends, drunk guys spewing chips is colse to nirvana for me but if the game becomes unplayable ya gotaa cut and run.
Oh for sure, it's like taking candy from a kid, its great at like 11:00pm on a Saturday night at the casino, but the game is in line and under control.

I agree with PSUJohn. I have a 50NL cash game every week and it is pretty laid back. Drink all you want and have fun just don't slow the game down. I am more than happy to have a couple people hammered to juice up the game. That's when it gets good and people start straddling. I'd be pissed if a dealer (assuming you were paying him) got hammered and misdealt b/c of it.
