step higher 5 went off last night...

Recommended Posts

a step higher 5 (15k buyin) finally got started last night, and i watched it while playing my regular 2-4 tables. It was ridiculous. It was the first one ive seen get started, because theres usually 4 or 5 guys with the buyin and a million other idiots that take up a seat for 15 seconds before they get kicked off for not buying in. The chatbox was going nuts the whole time, and for 15k they got 1000 chips and extremely quick blind structure. They were essentially flipping coins for 100k. Seems like way too much money to be putting on the line for a SNG like that.

Any known names in it? I'd think most of those guys got in for $50-100 but I don't know how much the lower steps are. That would be insane to play a 15K SNG at party, worst structure possible.

I have a question about the Step SNG's. Do you have the option to cash out at 15K, or by winning step #4 are you only awarded a free-roll to step #5 worth 15K?

not really, veronica O was railbirding, gamboholic and pbdrunks were nowhere to be found (although i chatted with pb 2 nights ago for 20 minutes while he futilely waited for one to start), a guy named 'hoytcorkins5' kept buying in and out, and some random guy ended up taking it down. the steps start at 33$. Id rather put 15k on red/black.

Free-roll, being able to cash out would make it worth a shot.

I know on Poker Stars, You don't have an option to cash out, however, if you and another player both email support on an agreed sale price of your step buyin that amount will be credited to you as real money and buy in for the other player. I'm sure Party would be the same.Brad

there are no steps on stars. there are sattelites that award you tournament dollars which can be sold. partypoker freeroll tokens cannot be traded/sold under any circumstances.

I bought into a Step 1 at PP for $33 on Tuesday and they kept giving me another freeroll for anything from 2nd to sixth place, and a $25 refund for seventh. I finally won a step 2 but don't know if the generous 4th through 6th freerolls continue at the second and higher levels.(was lucky w/ a second and first right of the bat at Step 2--so now I'm interested)What's the deal, because they only posted a payoff at Step 1 of 1st thru 3rd but paid more. I guess it's a come-on that doesn't apply beyond Step 1's. But don't know, and I'm saving the FR till I figure it out.Anybody know the rules at Party Steps 2-5?BTW the HoytCalkins5 guy won a ton on Tues night @2-5:30 AM EST.If its the guy who got 3rd at ESPN WTP at TAJ in AC 2004 guess he's got the $ to buyin for $1000 or higher cash.

hoyt corkins is a well known pro. hoytcorkins5 is likely not the same person, given his obscene and immature chat during the step 5 i watched.
Yeah, not the same person... I cover the final tables for the PP Quarter Million Guarantee and the UB 250k Guarantee on Sundays for pokertrails.com; HoytCorkins5 finished 2nd a few weeks back in the PP tournament, and won a little over 36k. That is why he has the money to play in that high of a buy in.Patrick

Anybody know the rules at Party Steps 2-5?
Go here: https://secure.partypoker.com/news/events/s...allenge-04.htmlOr, when you click a seat to sit down, where you see the payouts, click the "more" link to see the complete list of payouts, since it only shows the top 3.On a side note, steps suck. If you do manage to make it to the top step, it's just a huge luckfest. after the 3rd or 4th level, there's usually someone all in every hand. Not to mention the juice they take out at every level. Regular sit-and-go's and satellites, i can handle, but stay away from the steps.

i bought into step higher 4 days ago and i'm still playing that initial$33. i've been to step 2 three times and the best i've done is second. withthe advance structure all you have to do is stay tight for the first 3 levelsand you can continue play. i do agree it's a lottery ticket but if luck rollsyour way at the right times you could find yourself in step five.generally i play SNG limit and do well with them, this has been a cheapway to get experience at NL SNG's. i'm playing in my 10th step game right now on 1 buyin.
