  1. Let's say that I have limited funds in my bank account ($26.50), and I have also set up an automatic payment for X to come out on this day. Then, you go to McDonald's, then the gas station, then the newspaper stand, then starbucks. Let's assume four $5 transactions, which were covered by the $26.50. My account balance is immediately lowered by the 4 transactions, and these four transactions are now 'pending' at the bank, for some period of time. My bank knows that I have an auto draft coming out which will be 'non sufficient funds', so the bank has two options.Option 1: Process the four transa
  2. In this format, the 'experts' probably have to have a very broad knowledge base. I would imagine for expensive works there are picasso experts, etc. Or something.SlightlyRelated. College roommate's father appraised and fixed old violins. Apparently, he mis-identified an item, someone lost a million bucks, father got sued and had to sell the house to settle the case. Ruined the family business and the family itself. I don't think the guy took proper steps to separate the business from the family/house, that's why they lost it. LLC's ftw.Or something.
  3. I don't remember specifics, but it was an old, old rifle, great shape, and for whatever reasons it was a perfect combination of rare and good condition. I don't think there was anything 'special' about it, I don't think it took anyone's anal virginity. I always think it's funny to see the people's reactions when they get some obscenely high number on their stuff.I think old paintings surprise me the most, since I don't know anything. I probably couldn't tell the difference between something worthless and something valuable.edit: i guess there's a wiki for everything. The most valuable item to e
  4. For when you get your office job strat.
  5. There are better spots than this thread to engage in discussions such as this. I didn't even read your post. You are simply baiting greatestiam to continue posting. BG at least discounts everything the guy posts in an attempt to quiet the noise, you seem to actively engage someone who is quite obvious a troll and nothing more. Stop it.I'm not sure if you understand that or not.
  6. People are weird sometimes. I have a tendency to ignore your posts. Not because I disagree with them or even the content itself, but because they are very, very simple. I kind of see it like a commercial between the good posts that I can relate to. I just can't relate much to your posts.Regarding you specifically, I don't think I have ever called you a name or anything, sorry if I did. I think we agree on most points, and I don't remember engaging you. You are entirely correct that I don't know you, so I'm curious why you think I am 'judging' you. Do they have prescription medications for read
  7. I've always had huge problems with this. A close banker friend tries to explain this behavior as something other than fee maximization from people who have trouble with their finances. I think the consumer should decide how transactions are processed. In my opinion, bank accounts should pay interest on positive balances (checking/savings accts), and consumers should pay fees when they are negative (like a credit card). One account, simple. But, that would mean that banks can't generate revenue that way, and consumers need to have some skin in the game regarding penalties for poor behavior. I t
  8. No. I said guns at garage-sale prices. I remember an old kentucky rifle that was bought for dollars and appraised for $125,000. Feel free to doubt, but there are many weapons that are that valuable. I see where you're coming from, but with AP, the stuff they are buying would probably never see the light of day anyway. I can see where there is value in bringing that stuff out of the barn and into people's collections. These guys are facilitating that, and making a little during the process. I would imagine they'll make as much from the show as they do from picking. I don't think they are findin
  9. BG knows I'm just giving him crap, it's all good.I guess I need a xanax.
  10. People are saying you are a simpleton. Most simpletons won't understand why someone would call them that, which might be why you don't seem to 'get it'.Good luck.
  11. This is a trollBG post, and I won't take the bait. I had a close friend who was gay growing up, so it's ridiculous to say I'm a bigot. So then you try to make a straw man saying that I criticize people who aren't Christians in the religious forum. This is patently false, I criticize people's ideas that are false with regards to Christianity, and I criticize people who are anti-Christians, but I don't criticize people just because they aren't smart enough to be Christians.I appreciate liberals elitism, it's understandable. However, I don't understand you and other christian's elitism, and that's
  12. I am familiar with the term, 'mind boggling'. However, BG is the only person that I've seen repeatedly use the term, 'mind bottling' or a variant. I think he's using that as in people are being closed minded or something. Which, coming from BG, is pretty funny. But you knew that.
  13. I might give this post a shred of thought if it was made by vb. You continue to show that you don't have a clue, and we can keep blaming that on trollBG, but everyone knows seriousBG is just as bad. Feel free to judge me like you know me, my father or my family, because everyone knows you do this with everyone, all the time. You're just an old guy who is painfully out of touch with current culture etc. Bigotry and closed-mindedness that was 'okay' years ago during your youth, is now no longer 'okay'. While it might have been 'okay' to hate the gays years ago, you now sound more and more like a
  14. I hope to understand one day how you can post things like this, here, and then you criticize people who aren't christians in the religion forum. Mind bottling.
  15. First, you look stupid when you spell marijuana 'maryjuanda' in a weak attempt to undermine it, I hope you're aware. Second, I don't view non-medical use of marijuana as a 'problem'. I have much more of a problem with the enforcement/incarceration complex in our country, but neither trollBG nor seriousBG have shown any interest in discussing that topic.Third, you state that my post is an 'answer' to something. I guess I missed the question, can you ask it again? Fourth, I think the problem is addiction, not whether it's legal or illegal. The legality of substances like marijuana, alcohol and n
  16. Sorry strat, better start working on that cover letter.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405...3776372738.html
  17. We started saving newspaper plastic bags for animal corpses/trophies, and just started throwing them away. Not worth the effort.
  18. I think the idea of finding something valuable is pretty awesome. I think that show is just so awesome when the appraisers get excited with a valuable object. I've seen some rare paintings and guns that people got free or garage-sale cheap, and they appraise for $100,000. That's so much fun to watch no homo.I've started watching pawn stars and american pickers, those are two related shows worth checking out. Have you seen either?I agree with you though, there are a lot of stupid, cheap items that are featured.
  19. Is that a bad thing (lower tax revenue for the government), or a good thing (lower prices for users)?
  20. "LLY, I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed."
  21. I grew up on 4 acres, and we had animals. Ducks, geese, chickens, rabbits. They were kept in open pens, and several times a year we would find dead animals. We had to dig 4ft down and put large rocks above the bodies, to keep out the local dogs and coyotes. Good thing they weren't several weeks into decay.
  22. Any chance he knows some dirty secrets?
  23. While I don't have any debilitating medical conditions, I absolutely qualify under my state's rules regarding medical marijuana. I'm legal, and I use it legitimately to treat the health conditions that are associated with that recommendation. I think there are 14 qualifying medical conditions. You're also partly correct in that I have been a recreational user in the past, prior to 'getting legal'. However, I'll readily admit that my credibility as a patient suffers because I use medical marijuana to treat other symptoms that aren't part of the '14'. Legalization is a slippery slope, because the
  24. BG, your anti-drug views are just so hilarious.I'm curious why you seem to be so against legalization of drugs in general, pot specifically. Is it because of the harm associated with addiction?I submit this then. Comments? If the purpose of drug policy is to make toxic substances available to anyone who wants them in a flourishing market economy controlled by murderous criminal gangs, the current arrangements are working well. If, however, the goal is to reduce the amount of drugs being consumed and limit the harm associated with addiction, it is surely time to tear up the current policy. It has
