  1. I was more going for the regulating morals aspect, like how New York wants to regulate the amount of salt in restaurant food. That's ridiculous. San Fransisco is out of hand. http://www.popehat.com/2010/07/13/were-fro...s-best-for-you/ I know you don't like the writing style but that's crazy stuff.
  2. Do you have an opinion on whether or not she could afford contraception, or how many of her friends are the same?
  3. Mmmm, more funding for the insane war on drugs from this racist legislation, awesome. How much border security does $600 million buy?Short answer: Not too much.Long answer: Congress stood on its head to pass a supplemental $600 million border security bill yesterday, with two Senators returning to adopt the provision with unanimous consent. Election-year politics has a lot to do with the legislative consensus. But what exactly did the bill do?It funds about 1000 new Border Patrol agents, adding to the 20 thousand already on the force. That’s a continuation of Bush Administration policies,
  4. And personally, I feel that obama is saying that the buck still stops with bush. That's my problem, and I can't stand anyone.
  5. What do you think about this?from here:People like Rajiv Bhatia have thought about the Platonic ideal meal, and you haven’t. The Platonic ideal of a meal is not a happy one ; rather, it is a meal of which informed people like Rajiv Bhatia approve. A meal of which Rajiv Bhatia does not approve is not a meal at all, and therefore your uninformed belief that you should be able to choose your kids’ meals by yourself is simply untutored. Rajiv Bhatia understands that The People make bad choices and it is the role of The State to make correct choices for them for the ultimate good of The People.A m
  6. Did you click VB's link about the guy dating the DID girl?
  7. Did you look at that thread on 2+2? That's some srs stuff.
  8. If you ask a specific question, you generally get an answer. If you aren't specific or if BG feels like it, you get talking points with no real substance. That's BG.
  9. I'm going to work late tonight so I can read that thread, since I don't have home i-net access. It's pretty incredible.
  10. Everyone should read that thread, it's amazing. Words can't describe what that guy goes through. I can't even express all of the different feelings I get reading the thread. from the first page:Is it considered cheating when you have sex with the different personalitites?None of them seem to mind, and I've had sex with more than one of them in the same "session". I've had sex with all 5 at one point or another. Neither her therapist nor her doctors have suggested this is anything that will cause harm.
  11. Here's what I think. BG and his side like to point out drug use and 'abuse' in teenagers, citing overdose stories and treatment center statistics. I think the author is saying that treatment centers for teens are largely a function of scared parents, insurance companies paying claims, etc. I think that story is an attack on the idea that kids can even be addicts, for the reasons presented in the article.I thought it was really interesting about MPD in texas as well. I agree with you that this article is a little weird. If I catch my kid with pot, I would look at what I did to contribute to tha

  13. BG, it's not that bad, even when your kid gets ahold of it.When Your Kid Smokes PotVB, what do you think?
  14. I think this link is related to this discussion of regulation etc. http://www.popehat.com/2010/08/12/and-at-e...t-rent-seekers/Cliff notes: Monks want to sell hand made caskets to supplement income since they don't get subsidies from government or the catholic church. Current regulations prevent new competition like the monks or costco, lawsuits have been or will be filed.edit: in part:Defenders of the regulatory state assert that such regulations are reasonably designed to protect the health and safety of the populace and defend them from fraud and mistreatment by bad apples within an industr
  15. I agree with you, but with our current two party system, it's difficult to get much done in the way of compromise, even with issues such as this that likely affect a lot of Americans. It's just difficult when people don't have responsibility for their actions.
  16. Proof of fatherhood for women seeking child support? That would be interesting.
  17. I don't know all the details on this case and neither do you. I think I was being general and you were being more specific. Sorry about that.If you add the disclaimer of acting upon notification, then I would generally agree with that. What about an order where the suspected father wasn't notified, such as if he was out of the country or in jail, or any multitude of reasons. What's the requirement for notification outside of this case? A registered letter to last known address? Proof of service or something? I see your point that the guy should have acted long ago, but I'm curious what you thi
  18. This is the problem. Generally, liberals think that certain people in certain positions can enact rules or enforce behavior that they think is 'correct'. They say, let's regulate predatory lending since people can't take care of themselves. Conservatives would say something like it's people's fault for being irresponsible so they should enjoy their bad decisions. Where do we draw the line between personal responsibility and holding people's hands? I think.

  20. I did not expect you to take this position, but okay. What if you hooked up with some random, and she later listed you as the father on the child's birth certificate? Assuming you aren't the dad obviously, and assuming the random never tells you but still lists you on the BC, this same scenario applies. You still miss the window and you're still on the hook for a kid that's not yours. The reason this rule stands is 'for the children', but it most definitely gets taken advantage of. This just seems to be a horrible situation all around. I think it would be difficult going through life knowing my

  22. I bet strategy's head is asploding with mdg's canada advice. Who cares about canada in strats business thread? That doesn't seem very serious.Without derailing the thread anymore, these new regulations on banks will make poor people use more predatory lending, such as payday loans. They won't go away.
  23. You see, you took the time and effort to reply to me. I'm not sure what you're trying to do here, whether it's appear 'witty', offer some backhanded insult, or something else. It's a weak attempt at either humor or insult, whatever your intent. Try harder or don't post imo.Jesus Christ, I'm only trying to help you out. No need to get offended. Take note and move on.

  25. I know I've posted this before, and I see a new story on cnn.http://money.cnn.com/2010/08/11/news/compa...in&hpt=SbinRegarding medical tourism, this specific example was from a smallish company with a partially self funded insurance product. With a fully insured program, the premiums are paid entirely by the employer, and the liability for claims is on the insurance carrier. Every person covered is put into a 'pool', where large single claims aren't an issue. With a partial fully self funded plan, that liability falls back onto the employer group. This type of program is good for large comp
