  1. My mom works over by there. There's Orlando's on Park, which isn't a terrible bar. Think it's Park and Robert D. Ray Drive. Nothing wrong with Legend's, although it's obviously got more of a sports bar feel(and the owner is a giant douche, but, whatever). Royal Mile is awesome. Plenty of spots to just sit and bullshit with a crazy selection of beer and whiskey. They don't carry Budweiser products, at all.. which is kinda goofy. Dark, kinda intimate place but always plenty going on. Plus there's another bar, The Red Monk, upstairs that serves 592 different Belgian beers, if you're into that t
  2. Where at in Des Moines? Downtown? I like the Locust Tap a lot.
  3. Geezus, that's scary. Glad you and your's are all okay. BOOM.
  4. Thanks guys. About had to put a slit in the Santa hat to get it to fit over his gigantic melon. Instead, we just yanked it down really hard a couple of times.
  5. Boys are good. Davion's doing well in pre-school. Sneeber's teething and he's got an ear infection but he's tough and doesn't cry about it. He comes from good stock.Merry Christmas everyone. You know, except Jeffrey.
  6. The Packers had 13 of 22 opening day starters out of last week's game against New England. I can sympathize.
  7. 600k includes the parts of Warren, Dallas, Guthrie and Madison that Des Moines and West Des Moines have swallowed, BUT I WOULD HATE FOR FACTS TO GET IN THE WAY OF YOUR RHETORIC. Also, there's plenty of blacks. At the 2005-2007 American Community Survey Estimates, the city's population was 82.2% White (75.6% non-Hispanic White alone), 9.5% Black or African American, 0.9% American Indian and Alaska Native, 4.2% Asian, 5.6% from some other race and 2.3% from two or more races. 10.2% of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.[36]Maybe you didn't see them because it was dark out
  8. Des Moines really is a nice city. Very, very affordable and the downtown area is seeing a pretty healthy resurgence. Lots of local folks are opening shops/restaurants/bars and reviving the area, with the city's pumping a lot of money in to the revitalization. There's a Russian restaurant/bar that's really taking off. Not too many hipsters or fags. Pretty straightforward midwesterners for the most part. Lots of the ammenities of a larger city.. brand new arena/concert venue downtown, malls, new river walk, museums, art and so on. There's a casino/racetrack/card room, Bass Pro Shops, Arena footb
  9. Nope..on the other side in Altoona, right by the casino.
  10. There's a ton at my local Walgreens, along with Homer Simpson, Spongebob and assorted others. I live right ouside of Des Moines and could probably ship you one(or more) relatively cheaply. Let me know.
  11. Jesus.. you folks sure know how to make a man feel unloved.
  12. A big hello to all my Hebrews and Shebrews; hope you've all been well. Things are good in Iowa and I hope you're all getting ready to enjoy Christmas(except Jeffrey).Oh, and btw..
  13. Indiana's gonna score 35 on a lot of people in the Big Ten. That offense is pretty dynamic.
  14. They have a Maytag Blue Cheese fondue. Maytag Blue Cheese is made in IOWA. Just so you know.
  15. I thought they were pretty sharp. If they had this helmet on.. they'd have been the best Iowa uniforms of all time.
  16. I thought 'hago' was more like 'I can' whereas when you say Estoy whattheeffever, you're saying, "I am.." Not quite future versus present but similar. I dunno.. My spanish is pretty much relegated to food prep and crude comments about waitresses. I'll be anxiously awaiting that blog update, Jeff.
  17. No clue how I lost this week. Best, Johnson and the Steelers defense.. yikes.
  18. Can't wait for this thread to come crashing back down to earth when the Bears get throttled by the Packers next Monday.
  19. Also, Michigan's defense is terrible. Getting gashed by UMass is embarassing.
  20. Not that I'm not very disappointed, because I am.. but I don't think it's a bad loss. You can't give away 15 points on special teams and expect to win on the road, let alone at night against a ranked team. The fact that Iowa tied it up in the 4th is pretty telling. I think our corners are rough and I think our LBs are good but very inexperienced. I think our O-line is pretty green, still. All that said, I still think Iowa has a legitimate shot at the Big Ten title. Could always be worse, though.. we could be Iowa State.
  21. Thanks. He's pretty cool.. I think we might keep him.
