  1. Very interesting.... thank you for the information. So it seems a few of us were right with the estimation.
  2. That is interesting though, I wonder what's more commong, being a vegetarian because you don't believe in the mistreatment of animals, or if you are trying to be healthier?I love animals, I hate seeing them mistreated, but I eat more chicken and seafood than Colonel Sanders and Forrest Gump.... I try not to think about the process of how the food ends up on my plate, instead I am grateful that I have the food and I respect the animal that gave it's life for me to eat. I think for me that's a way of respecting what is going on instead of just eating the food because it's there.
  3. Once the flop comes and the player bet out, I would have raised him just to see where you stand. If he has AA or KK he will re-raise you and you can dump the hand. If he does not, he'll most likely call [or fold, woohoo!] and check to you on the turn. Now you own the hand and can take control and potentially win the pot right there if no scare cards come out. More often than not, he'll call you down to the river and show you a losing hand. If he acts more aggressively in response he might be an aggressive player, or have KK or AA or perhaps trips. So adjust accordingly.I get myself into
  4. This is especially true in NL games....

His account should expire after 12 days of inactivity and send him harassing e-mails reminding him that the forum is much more important that life itself kidding of course.
  6. Yes it is a hard decision. Per the usual there are other factors which affect this play including your opponents betting tendancies [i.e. his aggressiveness] and your read on what his hand is. If he raised pre-flop it's unlikely that he hit a come hand when the board shows 8-7-6, though it's possible that he might have an overpair or trips. So as Jayson said, you really need to know the situation well and decide if it's worth risking all of your money.
  7. There are a couple of reasons for raising in this situation.1) you could possibly win the pot right there2) you are getting more money in the pot which gives you the odds to call on the turn if necessary3) you are putting some pressure on the people to act behind you, and in some cases you are looking to get them out of the hand to increase your chances of winning the pot4) you may also raise here to get a free card on the turn [you raise and on the turn someone checks to you, you check too in order to see a free card]I like to mix this play up personally. I see alot of players raise all the
  8. I didn't know he was a vegetarian. That doesn't mean he doesn't eat a high fat no exercise diet tho.... he could still be eating bad despite being a vegetarian. One of my programmers is a vegetarian but eats so much chocolate and french fries that he looks more like a contestant on the biggest loser than a practicing health nut....
  9. I like wrto's point here. If you wait too long you aren't going to scare anyone away. This goes for regular tournaments, S&Gs and cash games. So you need to make your move before you are too low on totem pole. However, let's say you lose a big hand and are now severely short stacked, at this point you can play pretty much anything becuase someone is going to call you either way. I like moving with suited connectors and Axs and Kx2 in these situations.
  10. Lol on the Cloutier remark.... that does make me wonder too lol. Lederer seems to be getting a bit bigger as well, he must not exercise or at least doesn't mind what he eats.I definitely don't drink the night before a tournament or when I know I'll be playing cash games either.... just that 'dead' feeling that sux.
  11. And you mucked it!?!?!? Why not show just for the satisfaction?
  12. Oh that seriously kicks ass. When did they start those renovations? I was out there in September and saw a show there and didn't notice anything then.... *shrug*I'm going back in January so I'll have to take a look if I'm near the MGM.
  13. I read card player.... I love it. Not only because it's poker related and has amazing articles, but the quality of the print is excellent. High gloss color front page and back page.... feels nice in my hands
  14. Look at TylerMayes' example. This is the way you should be calculating your pot odds. My calculation is slightly different as I don't take the total number of cards and subract one, I take the number of cards that help vs those that don't and create the ratio from that. The result is the same however, but most people find his method easier.Take the number of cards left in the deck and divide by those that help you and subtract by one. In the example of the open ended straight draw you have five cards already seen, two in your hand and three on the board. So you have 47 total cards left, 8
  15. They have a missed blind button which you are then required to pay upon returning to your seat. This is only at some card rooms though and does apply to all online sites.
  16. Golf, Xbox and uhh.... that's about it
  17. I believe that there is luck, but I think the luck in poker is just statistical probability. Thus, no one player is lucky or unlucky, rather they had the probabilities hit in their favor. Every player will receive this during the course of their poker lives, so I don't consider it luck that you got pocket Aces four hands in a row.... it's just mathematics.
  18. I voted fold.Reason being that with a pair on the board someone could already have a boat that beats yours, e.g. AQ or AJ.Even though you are getting good odds on the pot, you'd need roughly 13-to-1 to make a call. You need another ace or a king to give you a boat. This assumes that the next ace doesn't give someone else quads. You could make the case that with implied odds you have the right odds to call, but I think the chances that you are already beat is just too great. Let's face it, you're a big dog going into the river if somone holds an ace, regardless of if they're already boated
  19. I saw it on Amazon.com with a release date of February 2nd [or 5th can't remember]
  20. I'm not talking about the number of outs I have to call a hand.... we all know pot odds.I'm talking about something like, I have AKs and someone moves all-in. I figure them for pocket QQ or KK, so, if I call, let's say a small amount, nothing major for my stack, how big of a dog am I here? I know that if he does have KK he only has one case K to hit trips, thus any ace would win the hand for me. So.... what's my calulation? I want to see I am % fav to win vs his % fav to win, or a ratio. I know my outs and the number of cards remaining, three.... so is my calculation just as simple as tha
  21. I love to read poker books too, and just reading in generally.I am a bit curious as to why you chose Phil Hellmuth's "Play Poker Like the Pros" as your first book though. Interestinly enough considering your post yesterday somewhat blasting people who play on NL....
  22. Note to ForumMod: This is classified as News per my suggestion to create a news forum! More fuel to the fire I don't think he knowingly took steroids from the onset, but maybe after he got going he might have realized that they were a step above supplementation.During my serious weight training days I took alot of testosterone enhancement type supplements and various other items, but never steroids. Although if they were safe and I had access to them I probably would have taken some form of them. But given the side effects I chose not to.I personally don't think there is anything wrong wit
  23. There was already another post about this topic somewhere in the forum, but I couldn't find it *shrug*Anyway I usually fold these unless I think I have the best hand [obviously] More often than not though, these are folding hands.
  24. I have an example of this from yesterday. There was a guy who was raising 3-5xBB before every flop for like five hands. I knew he was going to do it again so I limped with my pocket aces from UTG. He raised and two people called so I smooth called. I could've easly raised here, but with several others in the pot I decided to wait. Long story short, the board was rags and he continued to bet and on the turn I laid down the law and raised him, at which point he re-raised and I put him all-in [i had him beat in chip stack 3.5 to 1] and I won with a pair of aces vs his ace high with jack kick
