  1. i think maybe it was just an up and down day. because you have read books by sklansky and understand basic probability and statistics, i would say if you really feel you like this game, you can keep it up. however, online is much different from home games and casino games. i play online, but only NL and i do reasonable for myself. i also find that i lose most of my money (when i do lose) to draws, usually correct. maybe if you stopped chasing draws almost completely, only allowing a few draws, it would win you some money. i have never really played O8 or even Omaha high for real money online
  2. rogan was on the man show, and he took it down with him. being a teenager, the man show was absolutely hilarious, but when rogan and the other guy took over, it got whacked. i think it might have been due to segments such as "doug's mom reviews porn." what a waste of a good show. as for fear factor, that is pretty self explanatory in a few words : cow rectum
  3. daniel you just stole 5 hours of my life and i want them back!this game is so addicting, i think my highest was 24.95
  4. i think the show has gotten progressively better each and every episode. that said, i think there is still a lot of improvement to be made. most of the poker on the show is usually showing a bad beat, or else the hero has the nuts every time. there aren't too many hard decisions associated with the nuts. the drama is iffy as well.... but the story is progressing and i think the show is entering a new phase after seymour got killed and lowball got fired..... might we see a team of eddie clarke miami, the cop and lowball? we'll have to see
  5. yeah, U of M (university of minnesota) is right by a horse track (canterbury) that has a card club attached to it. right now it's only limit, but hopefully they will expand into NL soon. many other casinos within a few hours from U of M have cardrooms too
  6. good, good.... i ordered mine on the 24th and it is slated for delievery by 2-10.... can't wait
  7. also i think that playing those low suited connectors are helpful because you are never really married to a hand like you would be with AA or AK etc. if you dont hit with the suited connectors, you can throw them right away
  8. www.pokershoppe.com ............ they have a picture of SS2 right on the homepage, and it has all of the collaborators on the cover just as the old SS did...... check out daniel's name.... it says daniel NIEGRO..... just making sure that the actual book cover does not blatantly spell negreanu's name wrong
  9. suited connectors and even some gapped suited connectors are excellent in NL holdem, but not so much in limit.
  10. as with the last poster, i am 17 and come from a relatively well off family with MANY friends who have a good sum of money.... and i don't think any of their parents are serious poker players. now, by no means am i a "professional" in terms that negreanu or any of the other pros are, but i do derive a good portion of my income from poker. Most of the kids i play with are in shape, with jobs, school, and regular lives. Most of them are not "degenerate gamblers" or bad kids of any type. Private, you are really getting your facts wrong. There is of course a bad side to poker, as there is a bad si
  11. just ordered it off amazon with supersystem 2..... hope it helps me
  12. i agree, probably the best book i have. It is right up there with supersystem
  13. excelent post iceman....... everything is right and it sounds like the dealer in private's post may have had a few too many cards thrown at him..... the dealer has good advice, but it does seem like he watched too much "tilt." The "sickness" he is referring to is really just a thrill seeking thing for teenagers, and private is doing something constructive with that sickness rather than destructive (ie alcohol or drugs or excessive partying.) I'm 16 as well and there really isn't much i'd rather be doing. And yeah, sometimes you'll lose friends because of a new hobby, but i can't even number t
  14. i think it was more promising than the pilot was. I like that it almost veered away from the complete cheating aspect of the show, and it was nice to know a little more about the backstories, which shows why the 3 main characters are trying to take the matador down. you also see a little more human in the matador: he was really trying to please his daughter and then for some reason he was crying near the end.... anyone know why? (he was in the car not moving)
  15. spam spam spam and more spam...... thats why it's called a royal straight flush
  16. smash, i believe you are wrong..... you said that it is illegal for minors to play poker anywhere, but i have seen numerous instances of law where minors are equally able to play as adults are as long as the stakes aren't getting too high...... at least that is how it is in Minnesotaim 17 and i play poker 2-3 times a week, but only on weekends during the school week. This is by far a better thing to do than go spend 20 on drugs or alcohol, and most of our parents aren't even bothered by it. It's generally not considered a problem. The most i've ever seen someone stuck in a day was around 200,
  17. daniel, i was just wondering if you know what happened to Amarillo Slim; i heard child abuse rumors and was wondering if he is really in trouble with the law for it. i read his book and he seemed like a relatively decent human, but after reading some other posts on other forums and some newspaper articles, i am beginning to think otherwise
  18. on a related note.... who do you think would play daniel in a movie? i think either tobey mcquire or dominic monaghan from "lost" and the lord of the rings movies. clean any of them up a little and they look pretty close
  19. i dont see a problem here..... its a nl game and the raiser only raised the minimum. he SHOULD have raised more than just the minimum in a nl game... perhaps 5 or 6 dollars because that would either win the pot right there or would make sure you're only up against a good hand. suited low cards work well because there is no reason for you to be married to the hand if you miss on the flop
  20. suitedbullets, do you see the pros going in on every hand because they think they can outplay the opponents every time? no, even gus hansen knows when to do this. you're right, you should be playing the people, but poker is a special form of gambling in that there is a balance between luck and skill. the better the players, the more skill, and the worse the players, the more luck has a factor. you aren't trying to win all the money in every game, hence the studying part: you want to be able to beat them later on as well. But, since you have viewed yourself as primarily a tournament player, i c
  21. read this book a while ago while i was just starting, and it has some good concepts, but seems just to be the start of the Phil Helmuth poker conglomerate/cash-in on the craze. some of the concepts are good, but it is too rooted in the "top 10 only" theory and i dont think that is possible. also, the animal thing is a good analogy, but is really only for beginners
  22. got this book for christmas, paged through it so far but no in depth reading. i think this book is excellent because it doesn't tell you what to do in all situations, but it tells you what you should CONSIDER doing. it also gives you strategies into watching betting patterns, psychology, etc.great book
  23. im a little confused.....is this book ever coming out for people who dont play at doylesroom? all i ever hear about it is that the ONLY way to get it was to play there, they never seem to say anything about a regular release date or anything, which is really disappointing to me as im not even legal to play online
  24. i think you need to wait a few years private, there is no really easy way to get that money out unless you have a friend who is at least 18. i did the same in Royal Vegas with the free 10 i got, made it up to about 500, but i could not cash it out because i lied about my age. my parents knew about it and weren't mad, but i couldn't change my age or transfer so i was basically screwed. they ask for id so make sure you put in a name of a friend who is 18 or maybe just tell your parents
