99, Flopped Quads In Loose $2 Rebuy Satellite - Line Check

Recommended Posts

We're in the second five-minute level and the table has seen a fair number of multiway pre-flop all-ins and lots of rebuys. (Pretty typical, I assume? I haven't played many of these low buy-in lotteries - but wanted to blow off some steam and practise some shortstack shoving. So, in for the minimum, watching to see who shoves light and waiting for favourible equity opportunities. I am willing to double re-buy a few times as the table looks juicy - but hoping for an early double-up or better.)Before this hand, UTG and SB have only played a couple of hands (as have I), SB doubling with a decent hand. MP3 has been pushing and calling with a wide range. There have been hardly any "standard" raises pre-flop; it's mostly been an opening push, sometimes after limpers - and most of pushes have found a caller or two. I've no reason to think that a smaller raise wouldn't get shoved on pre-flop.)Questions follow ...PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t30 (9 handed) Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)saw flop|saw showdownMP2 (t4290)MP3 (t10080)CO (t3930)Hero (t1890)SB (t3700)BB (t4400)UTG (t1850)UTG+1 (t3860)MP1 (t1970)Preflop: Hero is Button with 9club.gif, 9spade.gif. (I'd have been happy to get all-in with several others with 99 and take my chances against some less-than-premium hands: A-rag, Q-rag suited wouldn't be suprising from what I'd seen. However, I thought I'd try and get some dead money in the pot - and leave myself able to get away post-flop if there are overcards and several opponents. Too cautious?)As for post-flop: obviously I'm just trying to get paid as much as possible. Is there any reason not to slow-play here? Everyone is pretty much committed after the flop betting, so I could have shoved there - but why give them a reason to fold? (Bets do seem to thin even this sort of field after the flop.) I like the Tc on the turn since it helps me sell weakness - and if I'm up against TT, well, you know ... The Th on the river is a little sickening in a gut-wrenching doomswitch way, though it should force them to call for a chop.(And yes, I'll admit it's a thickly-veiled brag/funny hand post from a long time lurker. But go easy on me Zach: judging by some of the awful pushing/calling ranges early on (and later on?), there does seem to be a lot of dead money in these rebuy satellites and a reasonable chance of making the break with an above-average stack for a minimal investment - though the structure is awful afterwards. So I might play a few of these for light relief and I'm interested how people would play 99 (and TT, JJ) in this situation - especially pre-flop, as I may not see that flop too often ...)And congratulations to SirWatts! Tough final table ... Hopefully won't be too long we see Hoosier at one of these things.Plus obligatory LOL at Hellmuth attempting to sing "Come On Eileen" on the Poker After Dark cash game. And not a UB-pimping celebrity.)

in a cheap rebuy you should be pushing any pair at a loose table, or check raising all in at a tighter table if youre in early position. As it is though, you got all the money in because you have a shortish stack. If things were a bit deeper checking the turn would be a big mistake because you have trouble getting the rest of the money in on the river.
