enough of the all-in fests

Recommended Posts

Anybody else tired of awful poker being broadcast on tv? Well it's not so much the caliber of play necessarily, but the hands which are chosen to be showen. I just watched a the 2005 WSOP circuit event in Lake Tahoe, and it was hardly anything more than 10 all-in hands, with no real play in bewteen, save for a semi-intresting heads up match. Having a ten player final table broadcast in 1 hour doesn't lend itself to entertaining tv, at least not for anybody who actually knows how to play. I also recently watched The American Poker Championship, which showed the final table broken up into three seperate hour long segments. This was much better as you got to see how good the great players really are. It was especially fun to see how Ivey and Juanda played for 3 full hours. I Just hope the WSOP ME final table is broadcast properly.

i agree that its an all in fest but the Main Event would be 100 episodes if they showed more hands that weren't all ins.

Well they should just split the final table into 2 or 3 hours, or have the television final table a table of 6 a la WPT.

The majority of the audience doesnt know how to play which is the reason for the format.
I also recently watched The American Poker Championship, which showed the final table broken up into three seperate hour long segments.
The majority of the audience doesnt have the time or interest to watch all that. I'm taking a guess that this show had lower rating.

Well it wasn't 3 hours straight, it was broken up...1 hour each week...each of which was the best poker I'd ever seen.

Yea, thats what I figured. Still people dont want want to invest that much time to see who wins. They dont see all those hands played being very different.Just keep in mind that the poker enthusiast is not the main audience they are trying to appeal to. They figure that poker enthusiasts will watch regardless.

I guess that's the whole problem

I totally agree with you on the all-in fest thing, but they are not trying to show people how to play and what moves to make. Most of the viewers tune in to see how certain players go out. I am sure that is what keeps the ratings up, not too many people would watch a whole table live of everybody folding all the time.

True, but the true fans would appreciate the finer points of the game...unfortunatly, the majority are not true poker fans.

Unfortunately, ESPN doesn't have an extra 9 hour time slot to show all of the hands. Can you imagine the plummet in ratings if they showed every pf rasie - fold around the table play?
I didn't mean every single hand.

ya know what they should do is to broadcast the final table live. that way, it would get good ratings because no matter how many pf raises and tables folds there are, its still live so people will tune in. I know it'll never happen but it would be more exciting than a one hour final table where every other hand is all in.
