took the worst beat possible, out of the woods??

Long story short, I've had a brutal year. I've done really well a few times, but mostly a whole lot of bad and tough beats. Anyways I'm playing heads up and just took down a monster. Opp left with 5oo to my 2500. The next hand we both limp flop is 7 7 2. I have 7 2. I move in, he's probably steaming and figures i'm bullying, I'm right he calls with A 9. Runner runner 9 OUCH! Worst possible beat right? Anyways he actually takes the chip lead back, but I go on to win. I can't take any worse beats then that ever, I think I'm out of the perverbial woods!!!

Not the worst beat possible. There are six cards that keep him technically alive in the hand (three aces and three 9s), and if he survives that long, then there are the remaining two cards of that denomination that would give him a higher set. If his kicker to go with the 9 was lower than 7, then it would be the worst type of beat possible, because only the perfect running 9s would help, not running aces. The worst beat possible would require perfect runners, where there are only two cards in the entire deck that help an opponent after the flop, and he hits one and then the other in succession, i.e. you have AhAd, flop is AsAcKs. Your opponent has Js x, and the turn and river are Ts and Qs, in either order. Or imagine you have flopped a full house with AK on an AAK flop, and lose to a small pocket pair when he runner-runners quads... worst beat possible.

he only has 3 outs instead of 6, so almost the worst beat possible. If it was six he could hit A 9 instead of A A or 9 9

Worst beat ever was te one when my friend flopped quad Kings on a Kd, Ks, 10d board, opponent moves in with AQ, with te A diamonds, running QJ of diamonds, cant possibly get worst

Where do you get 6 outs? It's 6 cards that can come on the turn to keep the opponent from technically drawing dead. If any ace or any 9 comes, the opponent still has a remote chance of winning the hand. Once the turn hits and is an A or 9, then there are two cards left that can clinch it. Not sure where you get 3 outs.
