****official Toronto Blue Jays Thread****

The deal definitely seems high, as everyone has said. Could just be Bautista threatening to walk after the season without a big deal. I hope when the contract is finalized it comes in a little lower, or with some flexibility for the Jays.Still, he didn't just have a big few weeks last year. It was one giant whole year, playing in the same stadium, and with a bigger second half. Other than the utter ridiculousness of it, there are few reasons to doubt he can continue to be very productive. Not 50-homers perhaps, but enough to earn that salary.

HMMM we are closer

Its going to be weird not having Marcum in the rotation, I hope this Drebek kid comes through watching him pitch that first game against Baltimore he has sick movement on his pitches.I hope McGowan is able to pitch this year the guy has been on the mend for three years now. Its amazing how these baseball players have such a small window of oppurtunty when they get called up at 25 or 26 you need to prove yourself for 3-4 years than next thing you know your 30 and on the downswing of your career.McGowan is 29 already so its pretty much this year or next if not his career is done.

Hooray!http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/2011/02/2...dule_sportsnet/In brief - all 162 games are on Sportsnet. For whatever reason, every Wednesday game is only on Sportsnet One. For the most part, everything else is on the other 4 channels, with the West missing an occasional game. There's a couple weeks where every game is only on Sportsnet One; I guess there must be something going on those weeks.Since I only get Sportsnet East, I am ecstatic I'll be getting 100+ games this year. They are televising a Spring game on Sunday at 1pm, on all 4 channels. Woot!

You don't get Sportsnet Ocho ?
No. Does anyone get that? I couldn't figure it out. Anyhoo, I don't even have cable TV, just whatever comes through with my cable internet - thankfully that includes TSN and Sportsnet East.

Pretty impressive first game. It sure will be nice if they can get guys on base, seeing as we know they can belt the ball better than than most. I don't know if there was ever a team that hit more solo HR's than the Jays last year.

Yeah, I wonder what team we'll lose him to when he turns into an ace?

I've decided to become a Jays fan this year. Normally I don't really care about baseball, when I was a kid I was a Tigers fan, but I dunno, I always find myself cheering for the Jays in the past few years. I realize they are in the toughest division and stuff, but I think they can find a way to win again!

God, I hope we just DFA Patterson when Davis comes back. Hell, I'd drop him if we can even get Podsednik healthy. He is so awful. The fact that he isn't batting 9th is inexcusable. Bat him 2nd, no wonder Bautista leads off every inning.

ok, what the hell does Farrell have against pinch-hitting? Does he know that is an option? There have been several opporunities recently...no go. I realize it messes up the defensive alignment, but how do you not pinch hit Arencibia or someone for McCoy?And if all it takes for you to lose your entire bench is Encarnacion being day to day, then you need to have another position player on your roster. How about instead of pinch-running Woodward, you pinch hit Arencibia for McDonald or McCoy and put Woodward in defensively if need be.

Jose Bautista has 58 home runs in his last 155 games. That is in incredible. Amazingly, he only has 30 doubles in that same span.
Going into today's games Jose Bautista is 1st in the AL in the following categories.RunsHome RunsWalksBatting AverageOn Base PercentageSlugging Percentage

RBI - notably missing. Last I checked he was not in the top-20 in the league. I don't know what is sadder - that we have two sub-300 OBP guys (Escobar, Patterson) hitting in front of him? Or that many of us are anxiously awaiting Rajai Davis, also a sub-300 OBP guys to get back and replace Patterson.Scott Podsednik is in AAA and now healthy. He has had an OBP above 340 the last two years, and has been no worse than 320 in a while. All-around, he probably isn't better than Rajai Davis, but he is much better than Patterson. I really hope when he is healthy, they ditch Patterson and keep Pods as a 4th outfielder. Hell, I might even take him in the starting lineup over Juan Rivera or Encarnacion if they don't pick it up.

In his past 10 games, ending April 29, Jose Bautista had a .500 batting average, .689 OBP, 1.214 SLG, good for a 1.903 OPS. That includes 6 homers, 15 runs, 9 RBI, 16/4 K/BB and a steal. For fun, run that out to 160 games:224 hits with 96 homers, 48 doubles, 16 triples, 16 SB, 240 runs, 144 RBI, and of course, the 1.903 OPS. For good measure, a 256/64 K/BB.Then again, he went only 1/4 last night with a double, dropping his OPS by 25 points.
