Wsop Texas Holdem--the Table Game

Recommended Posts

Has anybody played the WSOP table game at a casino? It basically plays like regular holdem: let's say you start play with a $5 ante, everyone gets dealt two cards face down (including the dealer)If you don't like them, you fold, only losing your ante. If you like them, and want to play on, you put double your ante ($10) on the 'FLOP' circle. For this example, we'll use KQo as hole cardsThe dealer then lays down the flop: Let's say K 7 4 rainbowIf you think you have a better hand than the dealer, you can call by putting just a $5 chip in the 'TURN' circle. (Only the initial flop call cost double your ante, the turn and river cost just your ante of $5)If you didn't hit the flop, you can check, which cost you nothing further; You cannot fold after you play to the flop, but you can check down, basically losing a max of $15.Dealer then burns and turns: say 2Again, if you think you have the best hand, you put $5 on the 'river' circle, if not, you check again. The dealer deals the river last, say Q, but there is no betting on this round. Then the hands are flipped up, and if your hand beats the dealer (say the dealer had 7 2 for hole cards: Obv your 2 pair are higher than his) you win even money on your flop, turn and river bets, which would be $20. If you win with a straight or better, you also win even money on your ante. There are also bonus bets you can put up that pay pretty good odds on starting hands like AKs/AQs/Ajs, any pocket pairs and others, but of course, this is how the house makes it's money, so gamble that at your own risk. It's not a bad game, but you're forced to play any ace, because the dealer is basically like a donk playing anything, and ace high can win a lot of hands. If you catch the cards, you can clean up pretty nicely. One guy at my table sat down with $100, and caught alot of pairs and suited high cards, and left with about $600 at a $5 table. If you have the game at your B&M, give it a shot.Good luck!

In my opinion, if you're going to play jackpot games like this, it's stupid not to play the jackpot bet.

I have played it quite a bit - it is pretty addictive but like any other casino game you will lose in the long run. However if you play optimally you can get close to breaking even although you should expect a big variance.Check out this web-site for the "correct" way to play (disclaimer: I have nothing to do with the site):http://wizardofodds.com/ultimatetexasholdemHave fun and always bet Trips ....Erasa

A few FCPer's played this at Bally's during the series last year. We had just come back from downtown and a whole lotta drinking. As a matter of fact, 2 of the smaller FCP guys shared the front seat in the convertible on the way back.I actually don't remember if I won or lost, but we definitely did drink more.Anyway, it was fun.

That is a really cool site. I haven't really gone through the optimal strategy yet, but it seems like it only vaguely resembles poker strategy.
