lew189 0
OK, so here's what's up: I have excellent results with live poker but have had horrific results online. I need some generic info about how winning players physically sit while playing online. I usually play on my laptop while lying on my couch. I rest the computer on my chest. Also, I usually have the tv on, but don't pay much attention. I think I just get too comfortable. Any opinions?

Any opinions? If you are having problems online you should definitely try a more "professional" set up. Get a computer desk, a nice chair, and a real mouse. Play in an area where there are no distractions so you can focus all your attention to the game. I also really enjoy using noise canceling headphones, but it's not necessary. David_Nicoson 1
I sit in a beat-up office chair in my bedroom. No TV, but FCP. 1-3 tables.
TwoFourOffsuit 0
Players can also be more aggressive online, leading to more chances to suck your good hands out or beat you. Much harder for many to do those bold, aggressive bets and play those marginal hands when you have to look your rivals in the eyes and physically move your chips over the commit line. showstopper24 0
i don't think the tv is too harmful, just make sure not to get too involved in the show (for example, don't be watching 24)

stealfromblind 0
first off....TURN THE TV OFF YOU BUMSdoes your boss let you put a tv in your cubicle and lounge around all day knowing it "won't effect your work", give me a break. i'd say its alright to listen to music but everything else should be cut off. in order to keep myself focused when i play i surround myself by things i've bought with the money i've won. for instance i got a 22" lcd to play on with money i won during a session and it REALLY helps remind me to stay focused and that these donkeys are paying my bills. withdraw some money occasionally and go buy something you wouldn't with your normal income, go get the ipod you've been wanting to get or the plasma tv. you need these daily reminders to show yourself that all the hard work pays off. in the end its like taking candy from a baby and thats the problem, its so easy lots of us tend to lose focus and gamble more then we should with certain hands. i think one of the bigger problems your running into online is that your starting to see TRUE variance. one session online might be the equivelant to 3 live sessions, or 12 live session if you multi table. adjust your starting hand requirements accordingly and you should be fine. also i recommend you get a program like Pokeroffice or Pokertracker to help you plug some of the leaks in your game.that is all.-steal
erac22 0
Players are better online at similar stakes. 2/5nl in a casino plays about the same as .25/.5nl online. You might just have to work on your game. I have had similar results playing at a desk as I have had lying down in bed or on my couch. I would only recommend the desk because using a mouse greatly reduces your risk of tendenitous/carpal tunnel.erac
Pack149 0
I keep the TV on, but only for sound. Here are some tips I use-Get up and walk around during breaks-If your eyes get sore, use visine-Stay in a chair. If you get on a couch or a bed, you cant concentrate as well

finztotheleft 0
Like Erac said, do not expect to win at the same blind levels as you play live. Step down several levels and don't move up until you are sure that you can beat each level.Read, read, read.Post hands in....and read all posts in the appropriate strat forum here.Sit up in a decent chair and focus only on poker (not the tv, etc) until your confidence builds.Good luck !
