The Nasty Little Habit I Picked Up Online

Recommended Posts

I love playing online. I really feel I get to see more hands and improve my play. HOWEVER, I have picked up a really bad habit and that is talking to myself out loud. So, you may be wondering, why is this such a bad habit? Well, it is because I have been doing it at live games and I have not realized to what extent until the past two weeks. Is there anyone else having the same problem? Is there a support group? Please help! :-)

If I behaved the ways I do at a live game which I sometimes do when I'm just playing on my laptop I'd be kicked out immediately :)It's like talking sh*t behind someones back then being an angel when the person is around (online/live). It's sort of hard to not realize that you're talking outloud, unless you're wasted on some sort of drug, aye theresa?

Ya I've noticed the last few weeks that sometimes when trying to figure out what someone has, I'll talk out loud to myself when going over everything to try to put them on a hand. I'm so used to online poker where you don't have to worry about that kind of stuff... I have to watch myself when I play live

I do the same thing in my home game. I'll actually look at the guy in the pot with me and tell him things like, " if you called my raise pre-flop, you must have big cards or a PP. Based on the fact that you re-raised me on the flop, I can't put you on trips - you would have only called, therefore, I think I'm still ahead, I raise."Just the process I go through when playing online, can't shake it in the comfort of my home game. I do not do it when I am at the casino. I actually think it has helped some of my friends improve their games, hearing the thought processes of trying to put them on a hand.

When I first started playing in live games, I was very aware not to show anything. But I have become just as comfortable with the group I play poker with as I am in front of the computer. I guess now is the time that I need to start working on my tells, other peoples tells, geatures, talk, etc. By now, I know how to play poker, now I need to learn how to "play the game".

I am Dr. jeckel and Mr. hyde between online and live. Online I will cus and stomp and call people all kinds of names. not in chat or anything... just talking out loud. My wife worries that I do that in live games also..... LOLIn live games I am very nice, talkative, and friendly. I even managed to tell a guy nice hand when he took 281 dollars from me when he way playing to an inside straight draw and pulled it on river.

I am a bastard online... and I played for the first time live yesterday at foxwoods in CT. I have never felt so at home in my life. It felt like I was born to be sitting at that table. I knew what to say when to say it and even managed to fold the nut straight, to the nut flush, which everyone else at my table was amazed at and all said they would have called. Unfortunately for them they would have been 75 dollars poorer than i am. = ) But i notice that the environment of playing live just isnt conducive to the same behavior as online.. I cant imagine even accidentally once acting the same way unless i decided to pop a few hallucinogenic drugs on my way to the casino!

I've been playing online for over a year. Have only played live once in the whole time. Availability more than anything else. I talk outloud the whole time. I'm sure I'd be asked to leave if I were to say those things outloud in a live game. When I've been reraised on my st8 I will count it out on my fingers to make sure Im not the one being the idiot. I think that would be quite a tell live.
