N.a.poker Championship + Fallsview Casino

Recommended Posts

Well Fallsview finally got their crap together and started the Satellite Tournaments this week for the WPT-North American Poker Championship (Oct 25). It was over a week later then announced but better late then never.Satellites started on Monday ($90,$160) to other Satellites but Fridays event ($640) was the first one where the winner actually got a buy in to the main event. Fridays $640 and Saturdays $1200 are the only ones where you can actually win a seat.I entered Fridays tournament. They are running these tourneys as sit and go's and as soon as they have the #'s then away you go. They will run them all day if the numbers are there. They need 20 people for the $640 on Friday and 10 people for the $1200 on Saturday. On Friday some people arrived as early as noon but the list never hit 20 people until 9pm. The organization was poor because as soon as you put your name on the list they should make you pay unless you ask to leave. As the list at many points had 20 names but when they called them to sit they realized that people who had signed up hours before had simply left without reporting. So many times they announced they were ready to go but realized at seating they were short. There were many frustrated hopeful participants. Since that is my cash game casino I simply played cash ($5/$5nl) for hours and if they never called me for the tourney I was OK with that. I got called for the first (and only game that day) at 9pm. I cashed out my chips from the cash game ($1300 on $300 buy in) and made my way to the tourney table. It was there that they took our buy in money. This was a 20 person tourney between 2 tables. It was then that I noticed that just about half were using Satellite coupons for their entry meaning they had won a $90 Satellite earlier that week. The tourney started and the action was pretty fast. The Satellite players it seemed played much more aggresive then the cash buy in ones. The fact that it cost them $90 and not $640 was probably the reason why. I played tight/aggressive picking only smaller pots in beginning to play in but once I committed to a pot I put a lot of pressure on to win it. As the players started to fall and we went to the final table I liked my position. I was about 4th with a farily good stack. then my JJ pre flop all in from late position got busted by 88 when they spiked an 8 and I was now in last with the short stack. I managed to drag myself back out when I decided to call an ALL-In with Q6 suited against a young Asain guy (big time Cash game player at our Casino) who was calling ALL-In about every 3 hands and showing cards as weak as K5 suited. He caught his 5 on the flop and I thought I was done but the turn gave me a flush draw and I hit my Q on the river. One of the players at our table ended up on a huge card rush and then eliminated 3 of the remaining 6 players and building what looked like an insurmountable stack. The three of us remaining where now in the money (3rd got rebuy, 2nd got buyin to $1200 satellite). We went back and forth until the chip leader (Mac) eliminated the other player and he and I were heads up. Hea 35,500 in chips and I had 4500.Now Mac and I are table friends. We play often at this casino and I know him to be a solid player. So when he made the joke that he would pay me to just give it to him I said how much. we cut a quick deal and on the next hand I bet all my chips but one hundred and when he went ALL-In I folded with just 100 left. He then finished me soon after. So Mac is Fallsviews first Satellite qualifier to the Main Event.I got my 2nd place coupon to the $1200 Satellite which is a 10 person event where first goes to the main event and 2nd gets a rebuy. Plus my deal with Mac gets me another entry in that $1200 Satellite. It was fun.

Is the buyin for the main event $10K? I looked on the WPT site but they didnt have it listed so I wasn't entirely sure.I hope they start running online sats on Bodog soon, I want to try to qualify as its one of the two WPT events I'm old enough to play in.

Cool. I'd like to sat. in too. I'm probably playing the Canadian Open since it's a lot cheaper and I can just buy straight into that one.
I would, but Bodog doesn't offer sats into that one. What's the buyin for that one?

YEs it is $10K. Here is a link to the info page for this tourney and also to Fallsview Casino.I have heard that some sights are already running Satellites but I don't know which ones.Apparently this tourney is attracting 18-20 year olds from all over the US who can play in Canada but not the US.

Yep, that would be me.But I think you need 19 and 20 year olds, since isnt 18 still too young?

I was told that 18 year old can come into the Casino but have to get stamped since they cannot legally drink.I do not know if that is true but I think it is because I often see kids with stamps on the back of their hands playing in our cash games. You would need to phone the casino to ask though as I really don't know.

On the casino's website it says 19 I believe. Either way, I'm 19 so it's all good :club:

I doubt that it's true. They put a stamp on the hand of anyone that looks 25 or younger.

You need to be 19 to play in the casino (and hence the WPT event in October). If you win, you need to be 21 to play at Bellagio Championship. There are tons of online sites offering satellites, Absolute, UB, Paradise, PamelaPoker, etc....The $640 sats on Fridays will be the most difficult to get running as they require the most players to be there and be ready. The more expensive $1200 sats on Saturdays get organized much quicker.

you have to be 19 to enter a casino in ontario..the hand stamp is so that you're not bothered by security all night for your idbodog shouldn't be running sats for this one...they don't allow Canadian customers and i'd seriously doubt they would do it because of that.my only question...why is Windsor not allowed by law to run sats for any tourneys (something about the way the olgc sets rules) and niagra can?

I paid $640 to enter that 20 man tourney.IF someone said to me for $640 we will let you play a very good player heads up but he will have 45500 in chips and you 4500 I would not enter that heads up match. So if instead of buying into it for $640 I instead got a buy in to 10 Man $1200 tourney. THat is beside the $1200 buy in I earned with 2nd place. Each of those 10 man tourneys has 1 seat to the Main event and 1 rebuy. I like my odds better there then in being a 10:1 dog.I like my deal.

I know that until this tourney Niagara could not. They lobbied hard to be able too. I assume now that Windsor can as I assume they have one set of rules for all their casinos.
Well done! How long did the satellite last? Or what were the blinds when you got to heads up? Trying to gauge how much play there was or if it was pretty quick.
they are pretty quick. You start with 2000 in chips. The blinds go up in 20 minute intervals. The whole tourney lasted about 1.5 hours.
