very interesting 7 card stud hand...folding quads

Recommended Posts

So i'm watching a 7 card stud tournament and there are 2 players leftPlayer 1 is one of the tightest players i have ever seenPlayer 2 is much looser and more aggressive. They're about even in stacks with about $7000 dollars worth of chips in each player's stacks. They let me see their cards.Player 1 dealt 7s7h/6dPlayer 2 dealt 7cAc/QsPlayer 1 brings it inPlayer 2 completesPlayer 1 callsPlayer 1 has 7s7h/6d5dPlayer 2 has 7cAc/QsQdPlayer 2 betsPlayer 1 callsPlayer 1 has 7s7h/6d5d9dPlayer 2 has 7cAc/QsQdQcPlayer 2 betsPlayer 1 raisesPlayer 2 raisesPlayer 1 callsPlayer 1 has 7s7h/6d5d9d8dPlayer 2 has 7cAc/QsQdQcQhPlayer 2 betsPlayer 1 raisesPlayer 2 raisesPlayer 1 raises(A couple more raises happen..)Player 2 stops and thinks and throws his hand away.Uhm wow. what a hand. keep in mind that player 2 was so certain he was beat even though he had quads SHOWING...because player 1 was so tight. Still...i don't know how he could do that. i dunno...what a crazy night.

What were the stakes?.... Its amazing to me that he would raise and reraise but fold when he only had to call two more bets, even if he was beaten it seems there would have been too much in the pot. I guess im not real knowledgeable about stud, was it H/L? If the dude really had the str. flush it would have been an incredible laydown though.

The real question is why did he reraise in the first place? If you're going to bluff-raise in 7stud, the best time is generally not at a loose player with quads showing. Thus, if someone raised me when I had quads showing, I'm folding or calling. The only thing I can beat is a bluff.

I still think it would have been a bad laydown. after the pot is that gigantic you have to be extremely sure your opponent isn't bluffing, and in my expierience these type of tight players like to exploit their image a lot, especially heads up.

im really not sure if i believe this hand happened...im not calling you a liar or anything, it just doesn't add up...first you say player 1 is one of the tightest players you have seen...if that were the case, he wouldn't have made it past fifth st. with player two showing trip queens, he's not gonna stick around with open ended!! and much less for the runner runner flush or st. flush...so first and foremost player 1's play doesn't seem to coincide with what type of player he apparently is....Second, player 2 is apparently this loose aggressive player...in this spot, there isn't a single tight aggressive player who would lay this down for one more bet, much less an aggressive player...its as if he played this hand knowing full well the other guy had a st. flush and was just trying to bluff him off it (which obviously doesn't make sense) because why would he be reraising if he felt his quads weren't good...obviously he didn't realize they were good until the re re re raise....but if he's made it to heads up in a tourney, he's obviously not a bad player and knows to some extent what he's doing...any player in the world, if they are genuinely thretened by the other players board but have an incredible strong holding themselves would simply check and call and show it down...the most it can cost you is an extra bet....The whole story to me doesn't make sense and i just don't believe this happened...(no offense!)

I can see why the guy bluffing the str8 flush would turn over his hand after the other guy folds. But how could you know what the player with quads showing had down? They obviously do not affect his hand rank, doesn't seem like he would turn them over.
