Won A Trip To Los Angeles

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, A little selfish post here, but I am just wondering if anyone has played poker at the Commernce Casino. I have won a free trip to L.A. from work for 3 days and plan on hitting that casino. I saw live tournaments held daily at 5pm. $100 dollar buy in with 2 re buys. First prize $7000 (appr). IS it a good tournament and how is the live game?? Any info would be appreciatted.

Having played in LA and a lot of California poker rooms..Commerce is the Poker capital of the world...you wont find anymore tables in one place anywhere else...You can play $1-2 and play $500-$1000 anywhere in between...Action is usually great, table side food is ok and there are big jackpots for the lower limit games...Havent played the tournies there but I believe they are very good..Have fun

i've played their NL cash games there, and my experience was that they're generally pretty easy to beat if you're patient and know what you're doing.for some reason, cash game players in LA can't fold any hand that has an ace in it (and are likely to raise any ace), so watch for that. be prepared for a lot of action.i don't have any tournament experience at commerce, but my gut instinct is that the tourney structure there won't be the worst of all time, but won't be that great, either. be prepared for a lot of bad players in them, also.

I really enjoy Commerce Casino. The NL games are full of fish, wait for a semi-decent hand and they'll pay you off.I played in a few tourneys there and the structure isn't great, but it's the best out of all the casinos in LA. Good luck!

Yeah but I've been offered free trips and tickets to places before from work and then found out I had to attend a time-share meeting first. I can read though, thanks.

For the record, winning denotes a prize.A trip to LA is no prizeCommerce is unreal though. When you first walk in try to remember this important point.Don't let your mouth hang open. But if you really want to fit in, walk up to the biggest stake table you can find and watch for a minute or two and walk away and say " Bunch of donkeys around here" in your best Texas drawl. They will give you tons of respect.

no, they don't card anywhere, that i've ever seen.
Its true they rarely card, but if they do and your not legal you will be escorted out rudely without your chips. And if your table happene to hit the jackpot OhOh

Thanks for the info as I will definately check it out.I won the trip for 3 days and have to attend an HBO premiere of Deadwood onbehalf of the company. Hopefully there will be some celebs. (jessica alba would be Wicked). The event will only be on Tue Night so I plan on putting in two sick sessions at Commernce. I play tourneys mostly and 10- 20, 15-30 limit. Toronto is not known as a gambling mecca but trust me when I say we have some amazing players here. I started Like Daniel at the charities and then too BLue heron and RAma. (these are two big places to play holdem in the Toronto area) NOw I play mainly underground as they are closer. Anyway wish me luck and good luck to all FCP members this weekend where ever you may be playing!

Commerce is REAL loose to say the least. It will be weird if you havent played in cali before as we dont have rake here, we have "collection". They take a fixed amount out of the pot either preflop or postflop (different rates for each). The NL tables with $100 max buy in have $2-$3 blinds so be prepared for lots of action.
