Turning $100 Into 2k @pp Playing Plo8, Session 7

Recommended Posts

Goal-Turn $100 into $2000 playing PLO8 at Party Poker.-I like what Smash've done, I hope that by doing this it will turn more players interested in plo8 and encourage discussions about the strategies beating this game.RulesI will play mostly PLO8 cash games, I may play some tournaments or SnGs when my BR grows.I will play mostly two tables at a time.I will start playing at the $25 level. When I hit $400 I will move to $50.When I hit $800 I will move to $100.When I hit $1400 I will move to $200.I will post hands that I won and lost and explain my thinking behind how I played them. Session 7A little bit of changesFrom now on I will update each session on a weekly basis, it's just too tedious to update it frequently. So each session update from now on will be a weekly update. I will be more likely to play half hour on Monday, one hour on Wednesday, etc. whenever I have time.SummaryThe previous session (6) was a loss session even it's about an hour, here's what I've found for my leaks.1. I've tried too hard to win to get this task done quick and I was a bit burned out. Trying to rush a turtle game is completely opposite to the points of winning plo8. I've always played more games than what I could handle. I guess I am overloaded. It's a good exercise for multitasking though.2. I've committed some basic errors once in a while, such as playing for the nut lows when I've no chance on the high, overplayed my flush when it's very obvious that someone have chased the boat (yeah they were donkeys but for me giving them the implied odds made me a donkey as well).Guess what I did when I wasn't playing well? I revisited Steve Badger's plo8 article and some others as well, took a couple of days off, refreshed my mind and last night I knew I was ready for a comeback.ResultsHours played in this session: 2Accumulated hours : 25 hoursBeginning BR: $230.46Ending BR: $324.25Money won this session: +$93.79Money won per table per hour in this session: ~$23.4 (i.e., 94 BBs per hour)Money won per table per hour overall: ~$4.5 (i.e., 18 BBs per hour, or about $9/h when two-tabling)Interesting HandsH1.Seat 1: bohmar ( $16.97 )Seat 3: SW20GT ( $31.12 )Seat 4: joelts3461 ( $20.59 )Seat 5: lumina1 ( $12.01 )Seat 6: bob4306 ( $1.98 )Seat 7: annbriar ( $7.45 )Seat 8: rccardshark ( $21.36 )Seat 9: Vappu ( $46.73 )Seat 10: hilogal2006 ( $51.05 )Seat 2: jkosfcp ( $25 )Vappu posts small blind [$0.10].hilogal2006 posts big blind [$0.25].rccardshark: yesssjkosfcp posts big blind [$0.25].** Dealing down cards **Dealt to jkosfcp [ 4h Ac Qh Js ]rccardshark: amazingrccardshark: no straightbohmar folds.jkosfcp checks.SW20GT folds.joelts3461 folds.lumina1 folds.bob4306 calls [$0.25].annbriar calls [$0.25].rccardshark folds.Vappu calls [$0.15].hilogal2006 checks.** Dealing Flop ** [ Jh, Ah, Ad ]Vappu bets [$0.50].hilogal2006 folds.jkosfcp raises [$1.43].bob4306 folds.annbriar folds.Vappu calls [$0.93].** Dealing Turn ** [ 9c ]Vappu checks.jkosfcp bets [$3.50].Vappu calls [$3.50].** Dealing River ** [ Td ]Vappu checks.jkosfcp bets [$6].Vappu calls [$6].jkosfcp shows [ 4h, Ac, Qh, Js ] a full house, Aces full of jacks.Vappu doesn't show [ 5s, Ts, 8d, As ] a full house, Aces full of tens.If I knew villain rivered a smaller boat I would have potted it. But in general I don't suggest trying to outplay your villains in plo8, just be patience and let the hand plays for itself and win. Now anyone wanna give me some pointers on shorthanded LO8 plays? I am lost in the maze. I do fine in the full ring games ($5/$10, $10/$20), but when it goes to 3 players or HU I am completely loss. I play much better on SH plo8 though because of the pot size control and implied odds.

I've been cold-decked since last week at PP. I was up about ~$10, but lost $11 in a Plo8 SnG (finished 4th or 5th, don't remember, when the blinds got huge and it's a gambling fest with A2xx, A3xx) after about 2 hours of play. As for my other games, it's both bad and good. It's bad because I was either winning or losing peanuts so it was about break-even since last two weeks (I've been cold-decked at plo8 as well). It's good because I've been playing "mixed-games" simultaneously. One table of plo, one table of plo8, one table lo8, then another table of either plh, nlh, Stud8, or nlh SnG. I am getting good at handling different games at the same time. What I realized was, as I haven't paid attention before or I didn't care, the juiciest game is plo. I am migrating to that game. Someday I will do another turning $50 into $1000 in plo and that will be much quicker but with the swings I will have to start at the penny tables though.I will update another session by the end of this week.

As usual, looking forward to it.

You could theoretically get to $1000 playing PLO8 and then finish getting to $2000 playing PLO as like a 2nd part to the "project." Just a suggestion.

I'm just starting to play PLO8 myself, so I'm finding your reports very helpful. Thanks for the insight into the low limit game (which is where I'll be spending my time).
