should the dealer ask players for a ruling?

Recommended Posts

i'm curious how this would play out. should majority rules sometimes play in a casino, in order to keep things simlpe/moving "There was a player who failed to show up, so his stack was being blinded off and on my final hand the dealer failed to deal the absent player in. The dealer realized his error and then asked the table what they wanted to do. Two players limped in and two more folded when it got to me. I assumed that since the players ahead of me acted that it was no longer up for debate and found AA. Happily I pushed my short stack all in and got one caller who rivered a gutshot straight after I caught my third A on the turn (must have been rigged)... Anyway, my question is should the dealer really have asked the tables opinion on the matter or should he just have called all the cards back? I'd just like to know for the future if I ever see that situation again. Thanks!" http://pokerforums.fulltiltpoker.com/onlin...r-play1676.html

no. way. call floor over. rules should be standardized, not applied/ignored on a case-by-case basis.(at the same time, most rulebooks clearly state that rulings will be made in the _spirit_ of the rule rather on technicality in vague/ambiguous matters. balancing these two things can sometimes be tricky, but this situation most definitely was not tricky.)aseem

That dealer should be fired. He jeopordizes the integrity of the game.Who knows what the house rules are in this cardroom, but a floorperson is the only one who can make definitive rulings. Try and get a house rules book from a floor person in your cardroom so you can also be two steps ahead of the floor person if questionable situations arise in the future.

You need to call the floor over to make a ruling. From what you've said the dealer comes off as a complete idiot to me because he should definitely know not to ask the table for a ruling when hes supposed to be taking charge in that situation. Thats just ridiculous. He's supposed to make all the rulings and if he doesnt know or someone has a problem with it he needs to call the floor. The same rules must apply to every hand, especially in a tournament setting. In you situation I would definitely be willing to give up AA without question if the rules supported it. If I lose that hand I'd be more pissed than if I got blinded away because I would have known it shouldnt have happened at all if the rules had been followed properly.
