Advice On Vegas Trip

Recommended Posts

Hello all~Me and my girlfriend and some friends turned 21 this year and are planning on going to vegas this summer during late july (probably the weekend of the 26th/27th). I've never been there, and neither has anyone, and so no one really knows where o stay, where to go, etc. What I need from you guys is:Suggestions on where to stay (somewhere on the strip or close to good attractions is good, as we wont be renting a car).Good casinos to play at (blackjack, poker (slots and w/e for the girls)).How much money to bring (maximum of 4 days, plan on drinking at least 2 or 3 nights, and gambling every day).Fun stuff to do besides gambling.Any feedback on places youve stayed at, did/didnt like, etc.Any and all suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks!

How much you got to spend?
800-1000 per person (incl hotel, not incl airfare)I have more, but my buddies probably will look to spend this much.

Have you ever been in the desert in July? I live in Phoenix and I can tell you, it is a little warm. Bring sunblock, very comfortable shorts, lotion for the chaffing. If you are not gambling all the time, go see hoover damn. Everyone should, up to you if you want to take the Damn Tour. I took a helicopter ride over the damn and the Grand Canyon. That's pretty cool.Beyond that, you just turned 21 so you will be too drunk to remember. Oh and go to the Oxygen bar in NY, NY to help get rid of your hangover in the morning.

Then I'd go hotel on the cheap for sure.IP will be the cheapest on the strip most of the time. Bill's Gambling Hall is next, and then Flamingo.Personally, we usually go to the IP and get a Deluxe room which are a few steps above their basic rooms, mostly because they were recently renovated, and the price jump is quite small. I have also heard very good things about Bill's, and Flamingo is always a safe bet as well. (Great Pool at Flamingo also.)They're basically lined up right across the street from Caesars, so location is pretty much the same on all 3, and right in the middle of the strip. Best location IMO.As for what Casino to go to, just go check a bunch out, they're all relatively similar except for theme, and all have interesting things to look at and do.As far as money... bring as much as you want to spend, cause it won't be hard to do it. Not sure what the girls like to do, but there is shopping, shows, and lots of clubs, so there's things to do for sure. For poker, check out http://www.allvegaspoker.comFor other stuff, check out http://www.cheapovegas.com or just http://www.vegas.comYou can take a look and maybe plan a few things to try to hit. But most plans fall apart when you're there. :club:

im gonna say bill gambling hall like i always do, it has a good location and is really cheap and its not a complete dump...and shit to do, theres plenty of stuff do in casinos besides gamble, but i heard that theres a pretty cool helicopter tour of the grand canyon/ hoover dam for fairly cheap, the clubs are nice, shows are pretty cool...but if u plan on staying 4 night, drinking everyday and gambling every day 1k isnt going to cut iti remember being really tilted about a hand i played at cash and went to walk around and steam and didnt feel like waiting for the cocktail waitress to order drinks and then have to wait for them, so i just went the the bar they have right by the bell poker room and ordered 3 drinks and 4 jagar bombs (was with a friend) and it was 120 total.edit: ya and if u plan on buyin anything shits pretty damn expensive

Heat isn't so bad if you're not out for a long time. And stay hydrated.I know it's cliche, but I'd literally take it any day over 90 and humid here in Chicago.

Bellagio bloody mary's are unbeatable for $12. Strongly suggested for the morning after.

Bill's gambling hall looks pretty nice from what I see on the website. Is 1/2 the cheapest cash game around in vegas rooms? Are there any decent tourneys (<$150) that we could all play in?

Pretty much yeah, 1/2 is the cheapest. But Bill's is opening, or just opened a 'poker room', but it's not really a room, it's probably gonna be 2 tables near the opening to the strip, similar to O'sheas. But the game there is going to be a single $1 blind NL game.My fav cheap tourney is the $60 at Planet Hollywood. 4k to start, 20 min levels. Sahara also has a $60 one, that starts with 5k and gets more players I think, but it's a lot of nitty old guys and a crappier casino. So I go with PH. Outside of that, any of the cheap ones you find are going to be super crapshoots.

take a cab/walk to a grocery store and drop like 100 on alcohol. esp if there are more then 4 of you. drinks out will run you like 10 a pop minimum. this will save you lots of cash if you make like 2 or 3 drinks of your own before/as you are going out, and you can take it with you to wherever you are going.

That ain't no lie. I lived in Phoenix for a year and 120 in Phoenix is not miserable at all. It's just heat and stuff gets hot. 85 and sunny and humid in iowa ... you can't breathe that stuff worth a shit.

if you really need to buy alcohol while in vegas, slots o fun right next to circus circus has 50 cent beers and $7 yard longs with anything you want. And they make nice souveniers (i use them for my coins) and you can carry and drink for hours. If they have any, they'll throw in a band that you can use around your neck to hold your drink and the 4ft straw helps too.

I totally agree with this. Sure you drink for free when you are gambling. And I do that. But you sound like you are going as a group. And you can drink as you walk around- weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Always have to go cups for the cab ride. I am a drunk, I know. (airplane bottles of booze that fit in your pockets for the clubs, I mean you are already with your GF and not trying to impress anyone.)

just find out which bars are having "ladies nights" and have your g/f's go up to the bar for you. Much easier that way.

You can walk around outside with open alcohol in vegas? 0_0If so, score.
I always thought it was mandatory. But yes, no problemo. They frown on glass bottles I believe.
