This summer I'd like to head to AC and try to play there on a somewhat regular basis. I'm just looking for recommendations on tournament structure, tournament buy-in, where lower rakes are, range of games & limits offered.I checked out some websites and saw the Taj tourneys and they seem somewhat decent?I started taking poker somewhat seriously about 10 months ago and started stepping up my game about 5 months ago. I've been consistenly winning & cashing in tourneys both live and online. While online is profitable, my real strength is in reading players and thus prefer live play to internet. I haven't really played poker on the net since I started doing well in local NL cash games & tourneys.Edit- I'd also like to get some info on ring games down there as well.

I did something similar for about month in AC last year ... My information may be out of date, but here's my perspective ...The Taj, Borgata, and Trop have the 3 big poker rooms ... I played in all three for substantial periods of time & tried a couple smaller rooms (Harrah's etc.) ...If you're planning on playing 50-80 hours a week, I think the only option is the Borgata ... The Taj is simply too dirty and the slot machines too noisy to maintain your sanity for extended periods of time ... The Trop is not as bad, but it's too dark and a little too depressing ... Plus the players at the Borgata tend to be younger, wealthier, and happier than those at the Taj and Trop (this will make a big difference to YOUR happiness and YOUR eventual profits).Borgata has $1-2 (max $200 [i think???]) and $2-5 NL (max $500) games. It also has a $5-5 PL game. It also spreads $10/20, 20/40, & 40-80 limit games regularly. (my experience is limited to the 10/20, 20/40 and 2-5 NL games)There's not enough money on the table in the $1-2 game, so it's pretty useless. The $2-5 NL game can get big enough with players establishing chip stakes in the $1,000-1,500 range after a couple hours. There are definitely a number of pros and semi-pros who grind the 10/20 and 20/40 games, so avoid those players (esp. if short-handed).Identifying the regular "fish" is very important. While I was there, two players in the $2-5 NL game routinely dropped $1.5-2k per night. You'll find similar experiences with "drunks" in 10/20 and 20/40 games who are just there to "gamble". Recognizing these games is important.Unfortunately, anytime your in a game with a big fish (who may have accumulated a lot of chips in an NL game by getting lucky), you'll notice a lot of very strong pros (20/40 & 40/80) drop down in limits in the early hours of the morning as the table gets short-handed. Learning how to play as the "second-worst" player at a table and still make money is a tricky skill to learn.

When I was there this past Saturday night, the 1/2 NL game had a 300 max buy in. Not sure on the 2/5 NL game. They also had 10/25 with a 5k max buy in. I railbirded the 10/25 while waiting for the 1/2 and thuoght the 10/25 guys were pretty bad. Lots of cash though.

Funny you should ask....I just played in the Borgatas 40/10 NL touney today. What began as a last minute work bailout turned into an interesting afternoon. But I wont bore you with all the details...Ended up at the final table through a relatively conservative approach(dont bluff too often...tight players...at least today). On the button with no callers I ended up putting in my entire stack into the mix w/ 10-9suited. Unfortunately the small blind(with an equal stack of 40k in chips) decided to call my all in with KQ. It went down like this...or at least something like thisFlop: K7A...rainbowTurn: Q...to make his two pair (with a J as my out)River: K....boom! he hits his full house are erupts in jubilation....jheesh.Ill take my 7th place and $450...not a bad showing for my 3rd tourney played there. Bottom line, players are decent but definitely beatable. FYI: this tourney was a 40/10 unlimited rebuy with an add on after round 3. Beginning next week they are completely changing the structure. All tourneys will be(from what I remember over the PA)2 tourneys a day....$100/20 Mon - Thrs., some $250's and a Friday night $500....NO REBUYS OR ADD-ON's and you start with 5000 in ships vs 1000. Will definitely change the mix. I think they seat around 120 now but are expanding their poker room as we speak. Hope this helped...gl. See you boys out west in early July...WSOP here i come....LOL....or am I?
