Trip Report----commerce

I know this isnt a strat forum but I hate this play that you made. I know its short stack poker and $60 is about a third of your stack but just calling before the flop gives you so many more options...Nice read, I have never played in the SoCal area.
I think the push is fine. There's an opportunity to make a huge mistake on, in this case, a flop with a king.

Just call pre, able to fold if an ace comes or maybe a K or Q. If those dont come, push on the flop and drive out any other possible hand such as AK, AQ... More ways to win IMO.

Rebuy Tournament---$120 buy-in.This was an interesting tournament for me as I did not rebuy or add-on once. People really took the "try to build a stack in the first hour" thing to heart. On the 2nd hand of the tourney, I tripled up with AK< AJ and 98 sooted. Yowza. I had sextupled my original buy in by the time rebuy ended and decided to skip the add on. Maybe a mistake as everything fell apart after that. Lost 1/3 of my chips with AJ on a flop of J73. He had KK. Later lost another big pot with 99 < AQ aipf. Finally was finished with AJ < AK aipf. I did not rake one pot after the rebuy period ended. Bummer. Still only out 120.Went back and found an open 3/5 NLHE table (200 max). Was put in seat two which was crucial. Seat nine and ten both had at least 750 in chips in front of them.....and both had on backwards hats. Honestly, I think a rounder in a backwards hat is giving himself one extra big pot a night......I give that little credit to the backward hat crowd.Sure enough, the two big stacks love to see flops. First orbit, one guy sees 7 flops. Not too shabby. Weak after the flop though. Twenty minutes in, I am on the button with 205 behind and 8h6h. Folds around to Mr. 7 flops who dutifully raises to 20. Folds to me and I re-pop to 60. He calls. Flop is: A93. He checks I bet half my stack, he folds.Later, I am in the CO with 250 behind. I get dealt AA. Sweet. Couple EP limps, then "7 flops" makes it 25. I decide to hope he has something for once, and I raise to 100 even. Folds to him. He seems to very much doubt my strength. I think I should have probably chatted with him....maybe goad him into calling. After 30 seconds, he folds. Too bad. Up to just under 300.Bout half hour later, I am down to 180. Nothing special happened. I am in the BB with 10d8d. Six limpers to me including both big stacks. I check.Flop is 883. Bingo. I check, Guy in EP bets 20, 7 flops calls, I call. Turn is a Q. I check, EP checks, 7 flops checks. River makes the board 883Q4. No flush possible. I bet 50, EP calls, 7 flops folds. I show trips he shows 99. Hmmm. Back up to 300 or so.Two hands later I get 88 on the button. Folds all the way to other backwards hat guy who makes it 15. I pop to 40. Folds back to him, he just calls. Flop is 662. Two spades or clubs cant remember. He checks, I bet 50. He raises to 100. I dont buy what he is selling at all and I raise all in. He makes a big show of thinking and folds. I am betting queen high honestly. Up to 450 or so.Hand of the session ( I am not involved):7 flops is UTG and makes it 10. Awesome. Bunch of calls I fold something awful like 10-5. Flop is 844. 7 flops bets 35 gets two calls. Turn is a 3. 7 flops bets 75, other two guys both go all in one for 30 more, the other for 70 or so more. 7 flops shows AA, one guy shows 88, other guy shows 44 for quads. Damn. River is a brick. I am not sure if a river 8 means we hit jackpot. I doubt it.I grind up to 535 mostly playing ultra tight pre flop. Such a loose loose game except I got respect. Not much in the way of cards though. Won 90 bucks late in the session with AK > AQ aipf. I probably made a really loose call but got away with it against a donk. Ended up 415 for the session give or take. Not a bad day.Commerce is a bit boring and the buyins are a bit low. (Coming from 100 max in FL that is not so big a deal really). Still great card room and very comfy chairs. Paying for beers sucks though.

It's true that he wins more pots. There'll be an ace, king, or queen on the flop ~40% of the time. Jacks win against AK 56% if all the money goes in preflop. But offsetting this is that the pots that jacks do win will often be smaller if he doesn't push.

They have just as good action as in Vegas.....seats are actually nicer. It is not as cool as Vegas though. Atmosphere is different.....you are in a slightly rundown building in a weird, industrial section of LA.3/5 NL game was amazingly soft on a tuesday night/weds. morning.....i cant imagine what goes on on the weekends.

I hate a lot of your plays, but fun read overall. You seem to be creating reasons why you made certain plays while you are recounting them instead of logically thinking through the hands while they are happening. Remember, every single cent you don't value bet is money you have lost. Your last hand was played poorly in certain parts, especially the river.
