Time for a Thread Bump!

Welcome back Swacker Fans for another big year.

After a final four finisher last year Swackers were due for an all in and your GM didn't disappoint. We'll cover who is new to the team from the FA draft in a bit but the big news post draft is the acquisition of none other that Erik Karlsson, the leagues top offensive D-Man. Wannabe pundits might cry foul at the package given up but the GM explained that those 2 firsts are a long way out, first round picks are expensive when finally playing and by that stage their salaries rise fast. Sure, if those pics are Lottery picks that might sting a bit, but not during a Championship hangover! There is lots of time to try to recover those pics depending how the next couple seasons go but for now, don't worry too much Swacker Fans. Player wise, Strome was a tough move. Some will say he's a bust, some say this is his breakout year. One thing moving Strome does is close the book on the lingering black cloud that was Leon. Moving on...

Current Roster Players;

Forwards - Claude Giroux, Filip Forsberg, Eric Staal, Nikolaj Ehlers, William Nylander, Jonathan Drouin, Vlady Namestikov, Kevin Hayes, Kyle Palmieri, Chris Tierney, Loui Eriksson, Riley Nash

Defense - Seth Jones, Kevin Shattenkirk, Rasmus Risolainen, Ivan Provorov, Ryan Pulock, Chris Tanev

Goalies - Dallas, Washington and Arizona - A great combo of top 20 goalies, which more importantly gives us 2 non goalie reg season games and only 1 non goalie Playoff game. Happy days.

The FA draft went as well as expected. We didn't have the cash to compete for the big boys but we were patient, and by the time the rich GM's had blown their loads on the big dicks there was plenty of midlers for the taking. The main goal was to fill spaces with teams we didn't have covered and in every case we accomplished that. So who's new?

Erik Karlsson, D - San Jose

What more needs to be said... he's without argument the #1 offensive D-man in the NHL, period. Stats wise the dude is practically a Forward. Swackers have never had this big a stud D-man in the franchise' history so we are going to sit back and enjoy this one. He's our Kawhi this year, let's hope it puts us over the top!

Kyle Okposo, F - Buffalo

An 11 year veteran who Forecaster says; Has terrific scoring ability and the mentality of a sniper. Can play a big man's game when necessary and owns an excellent skating stride. Possesses a lethal shot and a pretty good nose for the net. He had a PPG of 0.58 last season. He'll fit in perfectly as a role player on those short nights and if all goes well, along with Risto will give us 2 players on Buffalo's first PP unit.

Sam Bennett, F, Calgary

Another team upgrade. Last year Swacker Lance Bouma, who was rarely used was not offered a contract so our FA scouts were after a Calgary replacement at the draft. Bennett offers a significant upgrade over Bouma. He will also be used as a depth player but one potential here is he is coming into his 5th season in the NHL, which historically is the average player breakout year. Calgary has a lot of great offensive talent so lets hope he meshes with some of them and has that breakout year we are hoping for.

Gustav Nyqvist, F, Detroit

It's been a long time since we've had a Detroit forward on the team. We were surprised he fell this deep into the FA draft. I am sure he has been frustrating his previous GM while he waited for the breakout that never happened! Was it all about timing? Were those breakout years taking place at a time the Wings were stinking out the joint? Let's hope this talented, highly-skilled scoring winger gets moved to a contender ASAP!

Colton Sceviour on Florida and Trevor Lewis on Los Angeles and Carl Dahlstrom, D with Chicago provide potential injury depth for now. Brendan Perlini, F with Arizona will be promoted to the big club to replace the loss of Strome in the Karlsson deal. Oh yeah, lets not forget we have PP specialist and NYI D-Stud Ryan Pulock waiting on the Farm for his chance to wear big boy pants.

Strap in Swacker fans, it's gonna be a big year!

True that!

I have soured on him, and he just wasnt worth the new contract, but he could still be a player if traded away.

Nice team Dave, stacks up very well and is probably the best in our conference, though I honestly havent looked around much.
