  1. Haha, no, it's not that. I just don't like FCP'ers to know who I am sometimes and alter their play against me. Mostly it's because I'm seeing more and more FCP'ers everywhere...AseemP.S. This hand was on Pacific. I haven't seen eight way pots anywhere else, fwiw...
  2. IMO, a) we are winning more than 67% percent [that's how often we need to be winning to three-bet given the assumption that we either win 1 or lose 2], and B) we sometimes win two when we're ahead against a player who has top two pair or a set of 2's.aseem
  3. What the hell makes any of you think this hand happened on Absolute??? When have you ever seen an eight-way pot in your lifetimes at Absolute?? God I hate that site, and for a good reason. If this had happened at Absolute, hell would have officially frozen over.Aseem
  4. I don't understand what you're saying exactly... are you implying I didn't play it fast? I certainly did. I tried at every opportunity to isolate button since he was the uber donk, but I didn't slowplay ever. Limping UTG was no big deal because it was capped anyway. And the flop I check-raise-capped, so it's not like I slowplayed there.I don't think betting the flop is a good idea at all if you are guaranteed a checkraise. And the river is tough because of MP, although I did say he may have been tilting. Thanks,Aseem
  5. lol, why? It's not like the cards would have changed had the game been no limit. =DAseem
  6. Hero calls down. You know you still have a gutshot plus second pair with decent kicker, right? The only other options is raising, but that's retarded because folding to a three-bet sucks (because of your gutshot + pair) as does calling down (because you just charged yourself a bunch to draw). This isn't really close at all, you need to take a break so you can think clearly again.FWIW, 60 BB really isn't that much -- juts try to focus on that. I know losing 60 BB over 2k hands is the part that sucks, but 60 BB -- I win/lose that in two hours easily.Good luck,Aseem
  7. I feel your pain. This is my night in a nutshell.Fortunately it was just 2/4. Won't bore you with the rest, you know the usual, J2 splits with my JT on JJT flop with running KK, flopped set of queens loses to turned set of kings, yada yada yada.Aseem
  8. Okay, before the results are posted, I want to say that I think river situations like these (don't have to be nearly as sick) are THE part of my game that I continuously question -- I am just never sure.On the one hand, folding always sucks because the pot is so big and you don't need to be right barely that often to make a call +EV.On the other hand, I know that the vast majority of the time, I do not have the best hand, so it seems like a waste of chips. So, I hate calling here, but I hate folding. I hate calling even more because we gotta call two cold. I hate folding even more because of th
  9. Honestly not much to discuss here, I think I played correctly on every street, but I want to explain my thinking as I go along to help out people who are learning limit hold 'em.Waaay sorry if this comes off as super arrogant, not meaning to be, but I strongly feel that what I did (particularly on the flop) was correct, and I feel that if you disagree, you are not maximizing your EV.3/6 ten-handedTable fluctuates between loose and tight (this hand was clearly on one end of the spectrum...). Aggression seems average.I am MP2 with 9 8 .UTG limps, UTG+1 limps, UTG+2 limps, MP1 limps, I limp, MP
  10. The river call is bad, should be a three-bet, and no, I strongly feel that a three-bet is better than a call-check/raise turn line.People are more likely to call the flop three-bet than they are to call two cold on the turn, and you don't mind them calling two more on the flop with things like gutshots (it's still +EV for you and -EV for them). More importantly, though, having villian check the turn with a free card play sucks massively. Also, your decisions are much more crystal clear and easier. Are you still check/raising a club turn? If so, you might be putting in more money when behind now
  11. So, I think raise/call is the worst line. Unfortunately, that's what I did, LOL. I actually intended to raise/fold, but after I raised and villian three-bet, I found myself super curious since I rarely play this limit, so I stubbornly called the three-bet and a bet on a brick river. Turned out my hand was good against J 9 (no flush draw on turn).I don't know if I'm being results oriented slightly or not, but this result does make me feel like calling down is a slightly better line than raise/fold, because your average player might be considerably more aggressive and tricky at 5/10 here than th
  12. At these stakes, this is a bluff the vast majority of times. Your average player here never pushes so much with trips or the straight. Think "opposite man" -- if they have a strong hand, they'll bet super weak to get you to call, whereas if they have a weak hand, they'll bet super hard to get you to fold after you showed weakness on the turn.Aseem
  13. Not convinced. I didn't mean call to imply that we'll raise a safe river. I meant call down versus raise since you said you're calling a three-bet. Raising WHEN planning to call down to a three-bet really seems like a ton of spewing.Aseem
  14. But why raise rather than call down?? (knowing that you're not folding to a three-bet... is a three-bet still a sign of weakness?)
  15. Glad to see you're okay, Tremomey. Great post.Aseem
  16. not winning doesn't always equal losing... a ton of players are better than your average player and CAN win but they are inevitably break-even players because they tilt easily, play above their heads, tilt easily, play games they suck at from time to time, etc.anyway, i'm not going to argue about your friend. i don't know him, i don't know how he plays, etc. I'm just saying there's no way to help you "make this work" for you -- you are either going to win with it because you're good at 5/10 limit HE, or you're going to lose with it because you suck at 5/10 limit HE. either way, it'll have not
  17. sorry if this comes off sounding like a jackass, but you really don't know...everyone (especially kids/teenagers/students/etc.) says they win, but the vast majority of them don't...aseem
  18. um... there is 0 advantage to playing short-stacked in limit. i am saying this taking into consideration that the shortest anywhere allows you to buy in with is 5 big bets. if it was like 1 big bet, there can be an advantage, but 5, and especially 10, has zero advantage.with 10 especially, you will need to cap almost every street to be all-in, and the only time short stacks ever have an advantage in ANY poker game is when they can get it all-in before all the betting rounds have occured.I guarantee you, there is absolutely zero sense in what you are doing. Your friend staking you is his choice
  19. This doesn't answer your quesiton, but I strongly dislike the preflop cap. It's not much difference in equity between cold-calling and capping, but cold-calling allows you to see if any will cap; this is often very helpful info for later streets. As far as the hand goes, boy that's tough. Scenario A I would call down, scenario B I would fold.AseemEdit: SB's play is mind-boggling. If he's competent, I can't imagine what he would have. My best guess would be like ATs?? or JJ?? Weird.
  20. 5/10 ringI thought the game was loose, but it was becoming average around here I believe. The individual reads I had were for the donks that busted and left, unfortunately -- no read on the villian involved in this hand.I'm in MP with A 10 (suits irrelevant).UTG limps, ..., I raise, ..., BB calls, UTG calls.(6.5 sb, 3 plrs) A J 6 rainbowBB checks, UTG bets, I raise, BB folds, UTG calls.(5 bb, 2 plrs) 3This turn introduces a flush draw; I don't have any of that suit.UTG bets, I ...?Call down or raise? If raise, call down to a three-bet or fold to a three-bet? (I hate basically all three options
  21. 5/10 ringThis is my 8th-ish or so hand, no real reads yet. The table texture seems pretty loose and average on the aggression scale. I don't usually play 5/10 but I easily have the roll for it, and the game looked pretty juicy from the table stats so I sat down.... MP posted and checks, CO limps, Button limps, I complete in SB with Q 10 , BB checks.(5 sb, 5 plrs) 4 5 6 I must have been in the twilight zone or something, because this is an auto-bet for me, but for some reason I checked. I either must have timed out or misread the board while multi-tabling or SOMETHING... weird. Anyway...I
  22. so I have no idea about PT numbers for these guys. I haven't used PT in ages. I tend to not write LAG unless I actually see them do funky stuff like raise 86s utg or open with T7o from MP3, etc. Or on the other hand, when I see them 3bet from the SB after one limper and one raise with QTo or 44. etc.as for postflop, LAG implies that they make a lot of bluffs and/or checkraises with air, or donk on scare cards with 5 high, and/or get in many **** measuring contests with ace high, etc.Aseem
