  1. OK, give one good reason as to why he wasn't on there last year then. He is so much better than several of the players there last year. And he has several bracelets (too lazy to look it up, but I think he had 3 in one year).
  2. Kind of the problem with this format. There's very few big names on that list. I'm happy to see Jennifer Harman and Hoyt Corkins on it though. Not too many superstars on that list and you have to put Helmuth in there just for the sake of entertainment purposes. :-)
  3. It's really not. I don't like half the people on there. In fact, the 3 you listed were the ones I would love to see the most, but they fall a bit short. Ivey probably belongs, but good luck getting TV execs to pick him over some of the bigger names. He just hasn't done enough to promote the game to get the recognition he deserves.
  4. Didn't say you were new to the discussion of poker. Hmmm, feeling happy? I did put them both on the ****ing list. Are you forgetting that? I just said Phil is not a top player, which you seem to have conceded in talking about recent success (recent referring to the last few years). Chan, while his recent tourney success is not astounding, still plays at the highest of levels, which is why I think he belongs. Even if he didn't, I'd put him there as he was the last to repeat. Phil is just nowhere near a complete player, like the other guys on the list. 9 bracelets is awesome. They're
  5. Phil is portrayed on TV as a top player, but he's really not. You think he is, so I said you shouldn't believe what you see on TV necessarily. Call it silly little insults all you like. Judging by your number of posts, you're fairly new to the forum, so you haven't heard the discussions on Phil. Search for him and read the many pages on why he's not a top player. There are many. Chan had a bad tourney year, but I'm talking about the overall quality of the player, which is obviously something that matters. Chan's an awesome tourney player, but he's solid at several other formats. Phil h
  6. Touchy. Johnny Chan said some things about Phil that were less than pleasant in regards to his play. And I think DN's opinion matters a huge amount seeming as there are very, very few people in the world who play in the "big game" (4K-8K) and he's one of them. Ask around if Phil has ever played in it and won. I actually don't think he's ever played in it, period. Johnny Chan is still a top player, no doubt about that. Do you really think he doesn't belong on that list but Phil does? Wow. I wouldn't believe everything TV portrays. Phil gets his coverage for his antics (which are unden
  7. Apparently you haven't heard what the pro that hosts this site thinks about him. I've heard a few of the guys who were on the TOC make some off-handed comments about Phil's level of play (or lack thereof).
  8. Why is Phil not considered a top player? Well, hmmm.....he's just not anymore. He did win the Heads up championship, but he's barely had any noticeable tourney finishes in a very long time. He's certainly one of the more recognizable faces in poker, but that's not because of his play.
  9. Where'd you hear this? It probably won't make for as good TV as last year's if that's the format. The hand-picked superstars all at 1 table was great last year. I'd like to see something similar this year. Is the format a standard tourney payout or is it winner take all or something crazy?
  10. That's not a bad idea. It's difficult to put the 10 best guys in the world at 1 table without leaving out some very solid, elite players. With 2 tables, it'd geta lot easier, IMO.
  11. Has anyone heard any news on what the lineup of the next TOC would be? I've heard some discussion on it here, but nothing concrete. I think most people in this forum would agree that last year's TOC was not necessarily the best current players in the world. For example, what the hell is Annie Duke doing there? Does she even crack the top 1000?I'm gonna throw some names out there and my reasons for including them:1. Reserved for whichever shmuck wins the WSOP this year (most likely someone you've never heard of....it seems to be the theme, but they deserve to be in it if they won).2. Daniel
  12. the poker chips on the pool table as they were shooting was pretty funny. And when "flopped" into the pool, it looked a little painful. He's having to work harder and harder for the laughs.
  13. Sorry, life's too short to read this post.
  14. Anybody else find this hilarious? Why burn cards?I burn cards in protest. That's right, I deal 2 to each player and then before the flop, I take out my trusty zippo and torch the :clubs3: We usually stop playing and cash out when all of the cards have been 'burned.' Answer your question?
  15. I know this is probably oversimplistic, but have you asked them if you can transfer the money back to your girlfriend's account? And then she can officially open up her account on there and link it to her bank account. You've probably gone over the "I'll just put it back and it'll be all better" idea, but just wanted to make sure you've tried this one. I feel for you man, that is completely ridiculous. You, at the very least, are entitled to the 1500 or so that wasn't part of the transaction. I'd bring that up also and ask for just that money back. This story is making me a little hesita
  16. Well, yes, I have seem him lay down hands after he bets out strong, b ut I only saw him lay it down on the subsequent streets.I remember one hand where he raised PF and then got bet into and he laid down his weak ace....not that hard of a lay down, he had nothing.Anyway, I reraised him all in and he quickly called with A4!?!!!!That's right ladies and gentleman. He loved his ace high enough to push in another 600 chips early in the tourney. The turn and river were blanks and I took a big hit. In retrospect, considering I had a strong read on the guy, I would've liked to have led at the pot r
  17. Yep, the check on the flop was where I was kicking myself. I should've led out in retrospect. Maybe not as strong as 300, but I was thinking around 150 or 200. No, I don't want an all in here. If I lead out and get raised, then que sera sera, I'm willing to gamble a little bit more with a big stack early.
  18. I got moved before I got the HH on this one, so I can't use the converter....sorry.Anyway, I"m playing a MTT on UB with 400 or so participants and I'm having a good run. The blinds are at 20-40 and I'm already up to 5K in chips. I've taken notes on most of the guys at the table and have some pretty good reads on them. OK, here goesAaron: 1200 in chips (I read him on Ax)Scott: 5000 chips (JTs)He raises UTG to 100 and it's folded around to me in the bb with 10Js. Keep in mind, I'm in big stack mode, so I'm liking this situation. Reads:Aaron seems to be raising just about any crappy ace and
  19. Wasn't kurt about a 4-1 favorite when the money went in? OK, so far in skimming the posts here, I've seen the words horrible and dreadful. Yeah, I hate getting called when I'm a massive favorite. There are a variety of ways to play this hand, but when you get called and you turn over the best hand, you did something right, whether it was dumb luck you got a call or not. He played it fine.
  20. I saw blue diamonds once when i turned on the 4 color deck option on UB and it was just too disturbing for me to continue  Plus, it's not that hard to tell what suit you're looking at if you're an experienced player who has....well, sight. I can't remember the last time I made a suit mistake, so I stick to the 2 colored faithful deck. Like I said, blue diamonds are disturbing...next thing it will be pink hearts, yellow stars, green clovers in my frosted Lucky Charms.....oh wait.
  21. A break is a good recommendation, however, it's not a good idea for someone with ADD (as Prty has said in other threads). Instead, try changing games to Omaha, Omaha 8/b, Pineapple, 7 stud et al. After a day or so of that, you're ready to get back into NLHE and by playing Omaha, you're more willing to push and gamble like you should. It worked for me during my terrible downswing a few months ago. BTW, if you follow the exact recommendations of SSHE, you will have some large variance swings there. Miller and Sklansky advocate pushing some really, really small edges that may not hit at all
  22. Thanks Kool Aid man. I read the whole thread.....good reading. I was diagnosed about a decade ago with ADHD and well, it doesn't go away. I was wondering if anyone knows on here if ADD is linked to depression. My father was prescribed some anti-depressants a while back and I just wanted to see if there was a link. Personally, I'd rather see him taking something for the ADD as I think it'd take care of both problems. Something that wasn't posted in the thread I read was that ADD is very much passed on through the paternal genes. For example, I have it...my dad has it, my grandpa has it (
  23. Disturbing :-) Thanks for the advice guys. I'm off to make some money. Although I'm a bit skeptical. It's been a while since I played the .50/1.00 tables (which is the general consensus on the skill level of 3/6 live), so I'm not sure of the differences. Mostly, I just remember ridiculously loose calls and a lot of "expert" chatter, mostly from guys who knew little about poker.
  24. LOL. I riffle chips when I play online, so I guess I got that down. I had heard that for some reason, live games are softer than internet. I'm still not sure why.....maybe it's the drinking or the tourist factor. Anyone got an explanation for that?
  25. I'm going to the boat in a few hours with a buddy to play some 3/6 Limit. Now I've logged somewhere around half a million hands online (pokertracker), but have never played live at a casino. Weird, I know. Any subtle differences that I should be aware of? Yes, I've played live many times and yes I can read tells pretty easily, but is there anything else I should be prepared for? Any advice is appreciated. BTW, 2/4 and 3/6 Limit are my usual levels, so I'm fine there. I usually 3 table.
