First Time Playing Limit Omaha

Recommended Posts

We play PLO8 at my home game, but that's about all the experience I have. I just read Hwang's Pot Limit Omaha, and if I understood anything from that limit section (which I think I did), these guys playing $.25/.50 on Full Tilt are horrible. However, I'm quickly learning that rake kind of sucks in this game...Is it beatable? Should I move up? I don't really even know what proper bankroll management is for this game. Little help?

Im really not a Om8 specialist at all but id say that u might be able to just move up to avoid the high rake. but it really depends on ur broll. Can it be beat? Yeah for sure ive played with the low limit Om8 players and ur right, they are really bad. def bad enough to beat the rake..

up to .50/1 is beatable playing in the manner books describe. you're gonna hit a wall around 1/2 and 2/4 where a combination of the rake and slightly tighter players makes the games very hard to beat. 300 big bets is considered about right as far as bankroll management goes.

.25/.50 is pretty rough on the rake too. On Stars it's a double whammy cuz pots aren't usually anywhere near big enough to earn VPPs. I much prefer playing 1/2+, since you have a lot more options than just value betting the (current) nuts in a 10-way pot.

Wow, really? I feel rolled when I get up to 7 or 8 buy-ins. of course, i'm bat-$#!t insane..

What is a buy-in considered for limit? I thought it was just in terms of big bets. I've been sitting with forty, anyway.Antistuff, are you saying rake is worse at 1/2 and 2/4? Or are you saying that rake still sucks, but players are better?

Even if the rake is a bit stiff, you can profitably play a loose LO8 game where players go to the river with far from the nuts... which these micro games typically are.Hwang believes the bankroll requirements for a winning LO8 player are far lower than for a LHE player due to the lowered variance from the split pots and that nut lows are easier to draw to. 300 BB is a safe bank but you could go lower if you play solid, winning LO8.
