We're playing in an empty classroom at break in school, stakes are .05/.1 and it's a 7-handed game. Players are pretty terrible, BB in this hand doesn't really know what she's doing, button is a decent-ish player for the game, i guess effective stacks are $5-7 thought it's hard to tell.MP limps, i limp in the CO with Q9 of spades, button and BB call.Flop is A 8 2 with two spades. SB checks, BB checks, MP checks, i check, button bets .5, the BB calls and the MP player folds, i raise to 1.5.Is this an ok move? I play worse live than i do online and i'm wondering if i'm making too many moves because it's a boring slow live game.

I dont think its wrong play, you have second pair, your four to a flush and as long as you dont run into someone else holding Ks Xs your a favorite to hit the flush and take itI play worse online than live. weird.

If I ever wrote a poker book. I would title my first chapter, "Why you should play live before you play online."I have a lot of friends that can't play live because they started out playing 4 tables online (one of them 15 tables now, and claims he's even falling asleep doing that). When you start out playing live instead of online, you will be so much more patient when playing poker, at least, imo.And yeah, this is standard. Just because you're playing live vs. online, raising combo draws is obvious. But, if you're playing idiots, don't check raise them. They don't care if you check-raise them. They're more afraid of you if you three barrel them. But don't expect them to fold an Ace either way.

What hand are you trying to represent here? Granted, you're likely against idiots who couldn't read the alphabet, but by checking with only one to act you aren't representing much of anything except a draw. Would any "made hand" give a free card with so many players in the pot? Probably not.

Depends. Are they bad players because they are weak and fold too much or are they calling stations? If the latter, I would call. If the BB doesn't know what she is doing, you don't want to try and bluff her out with a check-raise. She won't get the significance of it. Plus, you are getting very good implied odds for calling and hitting your flush. If she has anything at all, you will probably get paid off.
