I fired out a 3xBB bet and got re-raised allin by the BB. If I call and win then I move up to 3rd, if I lose I'm out so I folded.

you should either go all in or fold, you allowed yourself to be moved off of a hand making you the short stack with 7 bb left, going on all in forces your opponents to take you out by putting up a large amount of their stack but if you make a weak raise they can come over the top with a wide range of hands, if you were going to play that A9 you should have just moved allin preflopi would have passed on A9 though, there is not reason to risk a seat when you have a stack the same size as several other people, if you had 3000 moving in is more reasonable but you can wait for the others to panic and make a mistake
